Exploring area with the Gr 3s in Mrs. DiDomenico's class. Ss estimated areas of everyday objects then used #polydrons to measure the actual area. Ss learned to predict the area when there weren't enough squares to cover the whole shape. @hwcdsbmathk8 @hnojces

Had the best time w/ Gr 3s @hnojces catching Pokemon! Ss used the tiles as a grid today to code a path to catch a Pokemon of their choice. Ss worked on 1/4 & 1/2 turns cw & ccw 🕒🕕. Some Ss found multiple paths & analyzed efficiency too! Great work #littlecoders! @hwcdsbmathk8
Some great discovery coding with this class! Looking at external and internal angles of 2D shapes. 😎
#polydrons in Gr 6 @steuces! Some Ss were challenged to build 3D shapes as a unit intro. Had convos about what makes a shape a prism vs a pyramid & what the parts of the shape are called. Small group worked on using nets to help determine surface area. @hwcdsbmathk8 @HWCDSB

Gr 3s @hnojces used coloured tiles to represent fractions in a set. They then rearranged the tiles to demonstrate equivalent fractions. Building that visual understanding early on is so important! Loved listening to their reasoning 😍👂... So many unique strategies! @hwcdsbmathk8
Coding at every grade @stfxces! Gr 4/5 learning to use @SpheroEdu Minis. Gr 5 learned about the inputs/outputs of @microbit_edu #microbits. Gr 2/3 coding club explored broadcasting messages on @scratch Gr 3s explored changing number patterns on @scratch @hwcdsbmathk8 @HWCDSB 💻

Had a great time co-teaching w/ Mrs. DiDomenico @hnojces today! We co-created a fair-share fractions lesson on @mathigon Polypad & these Gr 3s impressed w/ their Q's, process, & extensions. They even threw in equivalent fractions! 🤯 Proud of these great 🧠s! @hwcdsbmathk8
