Myth:PTSD affects someone immediately after a traumatic ordeal. If time has passed, someone is no longer at risk for PTSD. Fact:While symptoms for PTSD often arise within the first 3 months after a traumatic event, many times it takes months or even years for symptoms to appear.

PTSD in adolescents is more common in the later teen years; while the prevalence of PTSD for teens aged 13-14 is 3.7 percent, that number increases to 7 percent in the 17-18 age group. #PTSDAwareness

Complex PTSD is caused by multiple traumatic events, not just one. Individuals with complex PTSD can be diagnosed with borderline or antisocial personality disorder or dissociative disorders. #PTSDAwareness
