I enjoyed writing this blog for @EducationSheff — the illustration in the tweet is by the wonderful Angela Vives for JT Williams’ Bright Stars of Black British History and features Black poets Louise Bennett and Una Marson.

Despite the popularity of classic British children’s books, it’s crucial to recognize the rich contributions of Black British authors and illustrators. Let’s celebrate diversity and challenge stereotypes. Find out more below: tinyurl.com/mss5fwuj #BlackHistoryMonth2024

The Power of Picture Books 📚 Picture books ignite curiosity and build a love for reading! Through vibrant visuals, they help kids understand stories, learn new words, and enjoy reading together. A perfect start to lifelong reading! ❤️ #bookedug #childrenslibrary

Fantastic to see this report in print & to have contributed in a small way. I look forward to the changes it will bring (like more emphasis on spoken language in the NC, greater space for dialogue in classrooms, better teacher training on oracy) 1/2

We need to talk about oracy—what it is, why it matters, and why it matters now, in particular. We are proud to share the final report from The Oracy Education Commission, including our findings and recommendations. We need to talk👇 bit.ly/OEC-report

😮‍💨 Instead of just having kidlit authors entertain children, book festivals should have events for parents that show them how to use our books when engaging with their children, and also explain the benefits of what bonding in that way can lead to for both parent and child.

Teachers are saying parents aren’t reading enough with their children. They’re saying 11 year olds cannot read four letter words. I say all this to say, I’m beggging that we read with the children around us. I can’t imagine a world with dumber adults than we have now.
