The game changer for Ss understanding this concept of functions was to talk about soda machines! Making the connection of a broken soda machine and graphing possibilities helped them come up with the vertical line test. #iteachmath

Today my students discovered how to determine the sum of the interior angles of polygons. 🔺🔸✏️ #ThisisNorthside #iteachmath #MTBos

I got to see my sweet student from Jones MS today and she looks fabulous in her Lydia attire from Beetlejuice. ♥️🖤

For any #geometry teachers interested: Sample navigation tool for a quick unit where Ss study parallel lines & related angles & polygon angles: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d…. @pgliljedahl @mccainm @BTCthinks #BTCthinks

Calculating slope from a table of coordinates has been so much easier for them to grasp compared to using the formula! Whiteboards>>> #iteachmath #MTBos #ThisisNorthside

We had fun building 3D models of intersecting planes, naming planes, and looking at their intersections. 💜🖤I love my students. #thisisnorthside #MTBos #iteachmath

I 💚how a group of Ss decided 2 cut & paste their graph paper 2 fit all of their transformation steps on 1 paper. It was a creative solution to their problem #problemsolvingskills #iteachmath #thisisnorthside Task: Build a Polygon, then follow the 3 step transformation process

We have these big 4 quadrants that we've been using on whiteboards. They are magnetic. I love how easy it is for Ss to use. We've been discussing unit rate and proportional relationships. Today they created their own example and graphed it. #ThisisNorthside #iteachmath

If you need a warm up question for tomorrow, use this one... What is the question if this is the answer to a probability question? ♠️♣️♦️♥️ #iteachmath #MSmath #MTBos

I found this deep thinking task from the Phillips Exeter Academy's mathematics department. The problem sets they've created IMO are gold. Lots of interesting tasks that create productive struggle for advanced math students. #ThisIsNorthside #Iteachmath

A little vertical alignment meme for my geometry students next week. 🕷️🕸️❤️💙 #iteachmath #geometryteacher

I love how they can collectively reason though a problem without relying on me. I don't need to direct teach if I scaffold questions in a way that extends their learning. #ThisISNorthside #iteachmath #probability

Today's check in sparked conversation about a data point that didn't make sense. A student placed a point at (0,5). Another student said, "that doesn't work, there isn't a month zero." 🥰#ThisIsNothside #IteachMath x-axis Month You Were Born y-axis Feelings About Friday

2day we did a check-in w/each student using a magnetic coordinate plane. Ss got to plot a point to represent them. This is a great opportunity to learn about your students & their prior knowledge in a low risk way. #iteachmath ✨x-axis was energy level ✨y-axis is # of siblings
