Last summer, my son, then 9, swam in an English river and suffered 6 whole days of diarrhoea and vomiting. It was very worrying. His friend was almost hospitalised. And now we’re told the only way we can have more houses is by sacrificing any hope of cleaning up our waterways.…

On oracy (again!), a plea for us to remember that: 1. It’s Learning To Talk AND Talk For Learning. Both are v important. 2. It’s much more than just public speaking & formal debates. 3. Even in ‘public’ speech there are multiple kinds - not all formal, not all wholly planned. 1/

Perhaps now is the perfect moment to remind people of a few v important figures in the history of discussions of 'oracy' - learning to talk & talking to learn. Have you heard of Douglas Barnes? His work was so brilliant & has informed the thinking of many of the teachers..1/

Looking forward to leading our Oracy program at @Shaftesbury_sch next academic year! #oracy #education

2) Oracy. If this means, say, developing quality read-alouds & Q&A strategies, that's great. If it means bringing back hoop-jumping speaking & listening coursework, not so great.

I met a friend for lunch. They are ex-#NHS & now work for @Google This type of delicious, healthy lunch is available free every day. Plus coffee bars, a burrito bar, sleep pods... I’ll be back at work later this week & will be shouted at if I take a tea bag I did not buy myself.

Tension's building in Somerset and North Somerset this week. Schools and colleges are preparing to battle it out and spread awareness about the issues around violence against women and girls in a public vote - look out for your instructions on how to cast your vote #SaferStreets

I know this is going to shock you, folks, but one of the issues raised in the latest ofsted subject review is... That we don't give the subject enough time. If every report says that, is it possible that schools are not the problem?

The Indiana Bell building was rotated 90 degrees in 1930 over the course of a month. The 22 million-pound structure was moved at a rate of 15 inches per hour, while 600 employees continued to work inside.

Exciting times this morning as @TEDx is @Shaftesbury_sch , I'm looking forward to my students hearing a range of speakers from around the globe. Events like these inspire our students and challenge their ideas and thoughts around future opportunities. #Inspire

Hello Maths Tweeps. Does anyone know which Universities might accept #coremaths #pearson #mathsincontext instead of GCSE. I am interested in the idea of a student not doing GCSE (for whatever reason - humour me) and going on to doing #MathsinContext
