One very significant unmet need for a good deal of kids’ misbehaviour is ‘the need to muck about, make their pals laugh, and avoid work.’ The fact that so many grown ups forget this, and think it’s always all about a mental pathology or some tragic circumstance, is astonishing.
Students should *expect* to be asked questions about where they are in their understanding. This should be a normal part of classroom culture. If it is: 1. Common 2. Expected 3. Low stakes 4. Seen as part of a learning process ...then it's not only fine, it's optimal.
