All volcanoes in California were at normal levels of activity last week. usgs.gov/programs/VHP/v… Did you know that Mount St. Helens wasn't the only Cascade volcano to collapse? Mount Shasta did the same 300,000 years ago, forming the huge hummocks in the valley to its north.

A phreatic explosion is triggered by magma interacting with water. A hydrothermal explosion is water flashing to steam, with no magmatic involvement.
