Today in Central NL - Dr. Turner is tired of seeing the cracks in the system - cracks that I watch people slip through every day. Cracks that I see getting bigger and bigger….

Brilliant article by @SarahGiles10 👏👏 “But what I really need to ask for are changes that move the stress of keeping rural services open off of the people working in hospitals and back onto the politicians and civil servants responsible for the health-care system.”

So...I wrote piece. I'm absolutely heartbroken by the emails and messages from across the country saying: "you articulated exactly what I feel." cbc.ca/news/canada/fi…

Hey Canada, let’s stop the #homeopathy lie: Alberta is considering whether homeopathy and other 'alternative medicine' should be publicly-funded. It's a bad idea to fund bunk says @CaulfieldTim healthydebate.ca/2024/10/topic/… via @HealthyDebate

Word of the Day, again, is 'malversation' (16th century): corrupt or fraudulent behaviour by someone in a position of power.

Imagine

Imagine, hiring a family physician to plan primary care reform! The failed UPCC experiment here in BC shows what happens when politicians and hospital administrators plan primary care reform. @bccfp @BCFamilyDoctors can work with BC’s new govt to reform primary care here too.

The Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador is an orthopedic surgeon. He knows there in NO such thing as a "Virtual Fracture Clinic" and yet is quite content, apparently, to promote the concept of a "Virtual ER".

Another garbage week for Emergency Medicine in Canada. Interior BC ERs dropping like flies; Newfoundland gives up and promotes telephone calls with a granny figure; Nova Scotia and Alberta now report shuttered ERs like they do road closures. Crisis? What crisis?

A "Virtual" ER is not now or ever, an ER.

Well I guess Ontario and Newfoundland have this sad fact in common. Really a bad look when other provinces have figured out how to negotiate in good faith

Happy for my PEI colleagues - this will go a long way. @HCS_GovNL @GovNL can do the same before it’s too late

Cardiac arrest? Multi-system trauma? Code stroke? Ma Bell can’t help. Virtual ER not an ER

With House of Assembly back in session, please 🙏 MHA’s for CentralNL, ask the MOH why so many people still have minimal access to primary care in Central. We can’t keep going like this, the consequences are heartbreaking

The NL House of Assembly is back for another session. With Question Period about to start the gallery is nearly full. There are protestors here from Change Islands - looking for improved ferry service. Concerned parents from Paradise are here. Fish harvesters are here as well.

Medicine is the profession where when the canary in the coal mine dies, administrators just ask-- "Why can't we find more resilient canaries?"

Started again...entire healthcare system is signing out to the ER for the holidays. Patients calling GPs office being told no appointments available for their non-urgent problem, go to ER. No added support for the ER to meet the demand. ER not able to be on-call for everything

UNBELIEVABLE 😡😡😡 So not only is this government prioritizing care with no in-person component and no continuity, now it is to be outsourced to a US-based company. Remind me the chapter in Health Accord where this was recommended??

NL has signed a two year, $11 million annual, contract with a private company, Teladoc, to provide virtual primary care and emergency care. Teladoc is a U.S. company with an office in Toronto.
