Interesting how it's always "vote according to Biblical values!" until it comes to welcoming the immigrant, helping the poor, feeding the hungry, bringing healthcare to the sick, forgiving debts, caring for our planet, laying down our swords, or loving our neighbors.
One of the biggest lies we Christians have come to believe is that the best and most effective way to address the pressing issues of our time is to gain more control over others rather than become more compassionate towards others. This is the opposite of the gospel of Jesus.

If we Christians won’t at least consider what it does to our witness for Jesus when the world sees viral Christian outrage over the Olympics, but not over Sonya Massey, hungry school kids, or a politician hawking Bibles, we aren’t taking our faith as seriously as we think we are.

I just don’t think we Christians realize how fragile we make our faith look when we act as though something like artistic expression represents an existential threat to us. We have allowed fear and suspicion to overtake our public witness rather than love and understanding.
