I'm very grateful to @Miller_flash for this perceptive review of 'Twilight of the Godlings' 🧚♀️📚
Always good to review something that is actually worth the effort. My book review (written over a year ago) of @DrFrancisYoung 's ‘Twilight of the Godlings’ appears in the 2024 autumn issue (137) of the Journal of American Folklore. @CUPBookshop @cambUP_History @CambridgeUP
Attended The @FolkloreSociety’s version of the Oscars this evening at @cecilsharphouse Prof. Ronald Hutton walked off with the Folklore Society’s ‘Gold Star’, the Coote Lake Medal, & Tabitha Stanmore @MagicNotWitches secured The Katharine Briggs Award with ‘Cunning Folk’.
Delighted to see my poem, ‘The water horse’, published by The Folklore Society in current issue of FLS News, alongside the splendid illustration of a water kelpie, by Stephen Cook. With thanks to FLS’s editor @CeriHoulbrook for incorporating it in the Nov. issue @FolkloreSociety
New work from Stephen Cook, on show at Fairkytes Arts Centre. From today for three weeks.
A second bite at Van Gogh (yesterday) in the inestimable company of Potter and Cook (preceded and followed by the Admiralty [pub]!). @NationalGallery

Just back from UK screening of first 3 episodes of @alfonsocuaron DISCLAIMER* at BFI London Film Festival. As I doubled for Kevin Kline, as his ‘stand in’ this is the closest I get to claiming that I featured opposite Cate Blanchett!😉 Told in 7 chapters AppleTV+ from Fri 11 Oct
A snapshot of Vincent Van Gogh given a chance to shine at @NationalGallery today and a meet-up with my daughter. #NationalGalleryLondon
Great show on at the #MallGalleries (a terrific showing space) of The Royal Society of Marine Artist (RSMA)... Here are some snaps from this year’s show.
Treated to new production of O’Casey’s Juno & the Paycock this evening with Rylance & Smith-Cameron. Rylance always good but perhaps without the brilliance of Jerusalem, say. Bit longwinded redeemed by telling dark humour. Glad I saw it but not rushing to tell others to do same
Delighted to see my poem ‘Gull Island’ in Acumen 110, out now! Pleased to be included among a selection of fine writers & grateful to the editor @Danielle_Poet & to those others who have encouraged me to build a body of work for a planned volume @AcumenPoetry @kingstrs @BenQuash
Collation, Induction & Installation of Revd. Poppy Hughes all went well at @StPeterGP this evening. Bishop Anderson spoke about bringing the edges [of society] to the centre. Ven. John Hawkins on hand for Induction & Installation part. @TheOutsider40 @royal_vincident @splcoleman
At Warburg Institute’s school of advanced study this evening for Gombrich lecture series hosted by Bill Sherman & given by Prof. Paula Findlen (Stanford University) ‘Nature’s Play: The Cosmic Games of Renaissance Science’. Two more sessions, tomorrow and Thursday @Warburg_News
My #MaterialMysticism @commentmag interview with Chloë Reddaway, featuring a new @Brepols book, the @TheVCS , @BenQuash & much more: “The Virgin’s womb is full; the tomb is empty; and the mercy of God is wider than my imagination.” comment.org/a-wedding-in-l…
#bbcfootball Richarlison wants to stay at Spurs and we want to pay something like £60m for Solanke? Either the world's gone mad, or I have.
Visit to the water meadow of Runnymede and Ankerwycke today joining some haymaking wicker figures at the place of the Magna Carta.
Pleased to see my review of Addison Hart’s ‘Patapsco Spirits: Eleven Ghost Stories’ published in the Summer 2024 issue of the Journal of American Folklore. @addisonhart @AngelicoPress @afsfolklorists
