Fascinating week at a symposium in the landing station for the original transoceanic telegraph cable (Valentia Island, Country Kerry) that connected continents for the first time. I presented on a panel on emerging tech, discussing implications for science, resilience & defence.

Beautiful day in Kerry for the Valentia Island Subsea Symposium. Our EEZ waters are home to fibre optic cables that carry communications across the globe. Events like today’s important to identify innovative ways to improve security and resilience of key infrastructure.

A brighter start to today’s fieldwork at some of our more northerly Tamar sites looking at mining derived pollutants and multistressors as part of the @NOCnews FOCUS project.

Great to see this important @NERCscience supported fieldwork on pollution in the marine environment happening. Where do pollutants go and how are they transported in marine settings? This still remains poorly constrained, as does the compound effects of different pollutants

First day of fieldwork surveying and coring for the @NOCnews FOCUS pilot multistressors and mining pollutants project today on the Tamar. The weather is questionable but it’s all sunshine on board.
