Proud to announce our review article on RpoS and its regulation is out now! Want to learn more about how bacteria can control the general stress response? Full of what we know about the RpoS system, what we don't, and how well it applies to other organisms!
The alternative sigma factor RpoS regulates the general stress response in E. coli & is conserved in most γ-proteobacteria. How do stresses lead to RpoS induction? What have we learned about RpoS-dependent genes & pathways? Find out in #MMBR: journals.asm.org/doi/10.1128/mm…

We’re hiring a tenure-track faculty in Plant Microbiome & Plant Health in a Changing Climate @CornellCALS School of Integrative Plant Science. To apply: academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/28742 Application deadline: 2024/12/10. Please share widely! @AdamBogdanove @ChristineSmart6
I am excited to announce several post-doc positions studying gene regulation and cell biology of spirochetes are available in the @NIH Biology of Spirochetes Unit, opening 2025 in Bethesda, MD @NIAIDNews! Join our team and work on the dynamic NIH campus: training.nih.gov/jobs/pdfi-0128…
@felixrl_ took on a ~50-yr-old mystery in #Staph aureus cell biology and came out on top! Check out his paper on how #Staphylococcus aureus chooses its cell division plane, how it forms clusters, and why all this matters during infection... nature.com/articles/s4156…
Streptomyces gottesmaniae!!!
"In order to compensate for the gender gap in names of prokaryotes honouring persons, we propose new taxon names to all newly described species to honour female scientists" e.g. Streptomyces doudnae, S. gottesmaniae, S.lonegramiae, Pseudonocardia charpentierae
Did you know there are more than bilayer #membranes in nature? Meet the #archaeal monolayer and its surprising mechanical properties! New #preprint! (1/7)
#MicrobiologyMonday: Surfactants secreted by other bacterial species, infection hosts and fungi facilitate spreading of P. aeruginosa—including on surfaces that the bacterium is otherwise unable to move. Get the full scoop in #JBacteriology: asm.social/23X
Happy to share our newest preprint from @AnuKhareLab and my first postdoc project: biorxiv.org/content/10.110…. Here, we characterized how S. aureus adapts to pyocyanin, an antimicrobial produced by P. aeruginosa. This project was started by the supremely talented @microbiosara
Do you have any talented biology/microbiology students who just graduated and need a job? Send them my way please. The Burton Lab is hiring a research tech. cornell.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/CornellCareerP…
Proud to have recently presented my work at #BBM2024! Great time with a fantastic chance to meet and reconnect with colleagues in the Boston area. Would recommend to any and all trainees!
Staff scientist position with generous compensation available in my group! If you are a biochemist or structural biologist, see my website and email me! Www. deaconesculab.com
Kicking off BBM! Boston bacteria meeting 30th year anniversary at the GSU at Boston Univ. Campus Wouldn't be possible without our amazing co-chairs - Molly and Laurent, the organizing committee, and sponsors :-)
It was a pleasure working with @PopoMicro on this review of CRISPR-Cas associated transposons (CAST). Hopefully it gives a sense for the diversity of Tn7-like transposons and CRISPR systems that independently combined.go.shr.lc/444PwFh
Having worked on E. coli, we can all tell you it's one of the weird ones

(My next grant) There is great interest yet little understanding of the location of Kate Middleton. If funded, we propose to use our new superresolution microscope to check if she’s in the cell nucleus
