On Foreign Service National Recognition Day, we recognize the invaluable contributions of USAID’s locally based colleagues in the Europe and Eurasia region. Our work would not be possible without you. Thank you for everything you do!
It was a privilege to speak at a @USCCFoundation #BusinessSolves conference side event with business leaders about opportunities to support Ukraine’s needs this winter and beyond.
This week, I swore in Emily Coffman-Krunic as Mission Director for Bosnia & Herzegovina, a country she and I hold close to our hearts. Emily's extensive development experience will be instrumental in supporting Bosnia & Herzegovina’s democratic, inclusive European future.
Met with a new group of Ukraine Foreign Service Nationals for training and empowerment. @USAID steadfastly supports our local staff working on the front lines of public health despite Russian aggression.
Had a great discussion with an impressive group of @ASU students about USAID’s work in Europe, global development challenges, and pathways for young professionals into the international affairs arena. Truly inspiring! Can’t wait to see where their professional journeys take them.
I enjoyed speaking today at @USAIDEurope’s Cyber Workshop, and was incredibly impressed by new and innovative ideas. Continued creativity in cybersecurity is more important than ever, as we protect our partners against attacks from malign actors.
Deeply moving trip to Ukraine with @PowerUSAID! I am proud to see the progress of our programs and continue to be moved by the strength of the Ukrainian people.
We all give our thanks to the teachers of Ukraine - thanks to you, Ukrainian children can continue their education despite Russia's brutal war. Proud that the U.S. supports Ukraine’s schools and teachers as this is the future of Ukraine.
How Americans are helping Ukraine keep the lights and heat on despite Putin's attacks:
Ukraine's tech sector has grown 7% since 2022–incredible progress in the midst of Putin's attacks. I visited the Lviv IT Cluster, where USAID helps connect 300+ Ukrainian tech companies with 🇺🇸 businesses to create jobs & economic growth in both countries.
Brave energy workers in Ukraine risk their lives to protect vital infrastructure from Putin's attacks. USAID is helping Ukraine protect substations like this one in Western Ukraine, providing 10K tons of rebar and 200 miles of steel mesh to secure facilities across the country.
For 3+ decades, @USAID has supported anticorruption advocates, human rights defenders & independent media who helped lay the foundation of the democracy 🇺🇦 is fighting to protect. Good to meet with Ukrainians from media & civil society pushing for more anti-corruption reforms
Education is the foundational building block for Ukraine's democratic and independent future. Here’s how @USAID is helping children across Ukraine:
An old Soviet-era building in Lviv has been turned by the community & Urban Camp into a shelter and rec hub for ppl who have fled the frontlines of Russia’s war. Grateful to spend time with these Ukrainians pining for home but determined to make the best of their new home.
In an instant, Yaroslav Bazylevych lost his whole world: daughters Emilia, Yaryna & Daria, and his wife Eugenia. They were killed, along with 4 other civilians, when a hypersonic Russian missile hit a quiet tree-lined street here in Lviv.
Today, @PowerUSAID announced that the U.S. is providing $237 million in additional humanitarian funding to support the most vulnerable conflict-affected populations in Ukraine and Ukrainian refugees in the region. usaid.gov/news-informati…
NEWS: @PowerUSAID announced an initial contribution of $13 million to the “Rehab4U” program to support a resilient and inclusive rehabilitation system for Ukraine’s recovery. usaid.gov/news-informati…
Met with 🇺🇦Prime Minister @Denys_Shmyhal yesterday to discuss efforts to sustain Ukraine’s economic recovery and protect energy infrastructure.
Today, I reiterated to President @ZelenskyyUa the Biden-Harris Administration's unwavering support for Ukraine. With winter approaching & Putin's increasingly aggressive attacks on energy infrastructure, we are doing every thing we can to keep the lights on and the heat running.
The teachers I met this morning at an elementary school in Kyiv told me they do all they can to help their students forget about the war, despite constant trips to the bunker because of Putin's strikes. Inspired by the determination of these teachers & the resilience of the kids.
