Iran spent $300 million on missiles that killed 5 of its own Revolutionary Guards, a Palestinian in Jericho - but no Israelis. @khamenei_ir is the Charlie Chaplin of Islam.

Going ballistic.

Organisation that failed to enforce UN Resolution 1701 insists that UN Resolution 1701 is the answer to the problem of the failure of UN Resolution 1701.

Civilians must be protected, civilian infrastructure must not be targeted and International law must be respected. We strongly urge the parties to recommit to Security Council resolutions and 1701 (2006) as the only viable solution to bring back stability in this region.

Impressive pivot, even telling us for the first time in many months that Hezbollah is a terrorist organization proscribed by the UK, US and others and omitting to censor other people's use of the word "terrorist." Still waiting for a first mention of UN Resolution 1701.

Israel says it's carrying out a ground operation against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, which is "limited, localised and targeted". Yolande Knell, correspondent in Jerusalem, tells #R4Today Israel's allies are concerned about ‘mission creep’ in the region.

Some of us remember 1982, which was also supposed to be limited and targeted. And 2006, which was a terrible disaster for both Israel and Lebanon. And Netanyahu's complete absence of an exit strategy in Gaza. Let's hope this isn't yet another PsychoBibi blunder.

"A few hours ago, the IDF began limited, localised and targeted ground raids based on precise intelligence against Hezbollah terrorist targets and infrastructure in southern Lebanon," the Israeli military said thenationalnews.com/news/us/2024/0…

There’s every indication that Israel is preparing to invade Lebanon, thereby probably snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, particularly in the medium term, and handing Hezbollah the basis for a huge comeback, both politically and militarily. Idiotic in the extreme. Hubris.

This very good from @Ibishblog

Tehran’s confidence in Arab militias as the centerpiece of its forward defenses has surely waned. Iran will likely focus on a dual strategy of moving toward nuclear weaponization while trying to negotiate sanctions relief, if possible, with Washington. theatlantic.com/international/…

Oh dear. And here was I, following @nntaleb because I thought he was clever.

"There are signs that #Hezbollah is holding back for now from further escalation," @BBCWorld News reports as the Beirut psychos fire 300 missiles into #Israel in a single day and target Tel Aviv for the first time. The Beeb's commentators really should stick to horse racing.

US STATE DEPT TRAVEL WARNING: Avoid visiting homes in Lebanon with a Hezbollah missile stored under the coffee table.

Bravo to @BowenBBC, who managed to deliver a background commentary on #Israel and #Hezbollah last night without once mentioning the word "rocket"
