As James Timpson takes up office, there is much talk about the value of ‘second chances’. Some reflections are decent and positive; others are ill-informed and unkind. But it is worth remembering that there are large numbers of people in prison who never had a FIRST chance.
This is just awful. A once great Department let down (I’m being polite) by incompetent university management. And who suffers? The talented, hardworking faculty. It’s a scandal
