Yesterday marked the end of an era as I stepped down from my role on the Law Society Scrutiny and Performance Review Committee after serving as its Chair for the past 3 years . What a privilege and fantastic learning curve it was linkedin.com/posts/marknewb…

I have it on audible so I can indoctrinate passengers in my car who are unable then to escape the insanity of our system and the common sense of the book

It doesn’t get any less insane seeing this in print. It’s a book about *law*, for crying out loud. Written by somebody who - I have it on very good authority from a number of legitimately concerned citizens - isn’t even a real barrister. Happy Sunday to you all x

New @NewYorker investigation into Bamber case reveals ‘significant' police failings. 'We have clearest evidence that the crime scene was interfered with by senior officers,' says @MarkNewbyqsj who is ‘deeply concerned’ at lack of progress at CCRC thejusticegap.com/bamber-signifi…

Jeremy Bamber has served 39 years for England's most infamous family massacre. As the Criminal Cases Review Commission faces scrutiny over multiple wrongful convictions, is the Bamber case Britain's longest miscarriage of justice? My latest for @NewYorker newyorker.com/magazine/2024/…

- this is no surprise to the many who have been failed by the CCRC - Catalogue of failures’: watchdog missed chances to help Andrew Malkinson, report finds | Criminal Cases Review Commission | The Guardian theguardian.com/law/article/20…

Perfect bill to slot a reform of miscarriage of justice compensation into as labour opposed the coalition govt changes which deny virtually all compensation

The Crime and Policing Bill, Victims, Courts and Public Protection Bill will need watching. Seems an (almost ominously) wide-ranging name. Scope for all sorts of tucked-away measures. #KingsSpeech

Great result for labour but …….a peerage for Chris Grayling …….

I voted for our justice system and a fairer society

A really good article on todays devastating result and how the true nature of the impossible uk miscarriage compensation scheme is fully exposed by it

Miscarriage of justice compensation scheme ‘virtually insurmountable’ hurdle, says Strasbourg. European Court of Human Rights rules against Sam Hallam & Victor Nealon; BUT acknowledges govt ducked 'moral obligation' to wrongly convicted. The fight goes on thejusticegap.com/miscarriage-of…

The fight does go on and one we must now take to the new Govt as we cannot appeal a Grand Chamber decision

A disappointing ruling from Strasbourg. it is a self evidently appalling law – and needs to be scrapped. The fight goes on.

In the dissenting judgment the Court described the current scheme as presenting a virtually insurmountable hurdle to applicants #miscariagecompensation

10 years ago give or take a day Victor Nealon was refused compensation by the UK Govt for his wrongful conviction having only given him a £46 travel warrant when he was released after 17 years - finally today the Grand Chamber delivers judgment on the UK compensation scheme

MISCARRIAGE COMPENSATION JUDGMENT 11TH JUNE 2024 In the middle of a perfect storm over miscarriages of justice the Grand Chamber has confirmed they will hand down judgment of our case against the Uk Govt next Tuesday 11th June - Full Story is here tinyurl.com/53v8uzxs

Whilst the delay of a general election is the last thing the broken justice system needs right now , this is our opportunity finally to see a change of government to one that values communities and puts support for those in need above self interest @Keir_Starmer @labour
