When peatland bogs are drained or disturbed, stored carbon is released and native ecosystems suffer. In new #AGUPubs research, @MarionNyberg of @UBCGeog & @UTAS_ and colleagues investigated peatland restoration approaches in a bog near Vancouver, B.C. eos.org/research-spotl…

Talking Tasmanian fluxes in Cairns at OzFlux 2022 (thanks for the snap Mark!)

Field work yesterday: New warming chambers installed alongside ones that have been there for 8 years to test for acclimation of ecosystem CO2 exchange to warming; EC tower getting the fluxes; and a wombat decided my soil respiration collars were the perfect toilet @hovendenlab

Hobart is slowly becoming unaffordable on a PhD stipend. Between increasing rent, utilities, fuel and food prices the squeeze is getting tighter. Even more so for international students who need to consider saving money to see family we haven't seen in 3 years 🤯 @UTAS_ #PhDChat

The Silver Plains EC tower and WARM experiment! Pretty excited to be seeing what's going on with all things CO2/flux related here in Tasmania. Not pictured is the (not shy) tiger snake who was also checking out the tower. @hovendenlab

A morning check on my new field site in Tasmania (still 13 500km away) and I spotted a little wombat wandering around! Really looking forward to getting out there again.

Excited to share our new #publication. doi.org/10.1029/2021JG… 1) The disturbance history and restoration strategy introduced different ecosystem types in a restored peatland.

Officially started my PhD @UTAS_ (remotely)! Still 13 500 km away from Hobart, but excited to be working with @hovendenlab on climate change effects on C fluxes in high alt. grassy peatlands

Post thesis defence stroll. 180 km on the Sunshine Coast Trail with @SmithTripp21 . A week well spent!

Huge thanks to @sarahelenknox for helping me get through the past 2 years at @UBCGeog ! Despite what the past couple of years have entailed, I'm super grateful to have had this experience and have learnt more than I thought was possible

A morning walk observation: the summer paradox. People enjoy spending time outside because it's beautiful, but the amount of rubbish littering beaches and parks in recent weeks seems to be increasing exponentially. A definite disconnect that needs to be addressed here.
