I am all but an emotional puddle on the floor. What a magnificent performance: my goodness, the second violins, the horns — some of the finest Mahler I have ever heard and one of the great concerts. Never ever defund these amazing BBC orchestras.

Seasoned followers will know that I rank Mahler’s 9th highest among his many, many masterpieces. So to hear it this afternoon at dear Usher Hall will be very special indeed. Tremendously excited!
