Had fun writing this flash piece about baseball and a lot of messier parts of life — many thanks to @trampset for giving it a home!!

If Measure A fails and LA defunds homeless services, outreach workers get laid off. Shelters close. When people end up on the street, it will take longer to make contact. When someone finally does, it will take longer to get them inside. All that adds up to more homelessness.
I just found out that Bill Watterson (the genius behind Calvin and Hobbes) gave a commencement speech in 1990 and it's incredible 1/2
It featured contributions from our Founding Director @SandyDarity (also co-editor of the volume), Associate Director of Research @Keisha_Bentley, and Associate in Research @Lucas_A_Hubbard (also a co-editor). Need a copy? The paperback arrives Jan. 2025: ucpress.edu/book/978052040…

What Ta-Nehisi Coates is doing, using his standing in the liberal mainstream to enter rarefied mainstream spaces to speak out on behalf of Palestinians, even though those spaces will be invariably hostile and even perhaps subsequently foreclosed to him, is incredible
Wow, it turns out I played a role in pushing Ta-Nehisi Coates to look more deeply into Palestine. I was the woman who yelled on the mic about Palestine and got shouted down at his event with Jeffrey Goldberg, it was at the Sixth & I synagogue in DC I think in 2014. That was…
My god
Ta-Nehisi Coates’s writing on race fueled a reckoning in America. Now he wants to change the way we think about Israel and Palestine. Read our new cover story now: trib.al/14EyFWS
all of this fear-mongering around women athletes and their bodies has real trickle-down impacts I wrote last month about how plenty of women athletes have decided to quit—or were told to quit—before they could even potentially get to the Olympics slate.com/life/2024/07/o…
very funny and cool that the rallying cry from resistance libs was “Any Functioning Adult 2020” but now updating that slogan for 2024 is apparently a bridge too far
Happening tomorrow!! Please join co-editors of The Black Reparations Project (@SandyDarity, A. Kirsten Mullen, & @Lucas_A_Hubbard) and many more incredible scholars for this important discussion: lighthousebookshop.com/events/black-r…

Mediterranean Deli, Bakery, and Catering has provided food for the encampment. Demonstrators are eating lunch now. Jamil Kadoura, the owner of Med Deli, began his food service career helping a struggling falafel pita stand in Qalqilya, Palestine, as a child.
