An old tomb in the form of a hybridised gazebo inside the 16 Anna Muslim cemetery at Kidderpore, Kolkata. #Neoclassical elements such as Corinthian columns and semicircular arches have been curiously merged with an Islamic cupola and a pinnacle.

Always used to think that this was the minaret of some mosque, but it is not. In fact, it is the #Lascar_War_Memorial, erected in the memory of 896 seamen of Bengal, Assam and upper India who lost their lives in the service of the British Empire in WWI. @BACSA_news @CWGC

Evolution of the #Great_Banyan_Tree of Botanical Gardens, Howrah, over almost two centuries. Το some extent, the tree has experienced damages by three great cyclones in the years 1864, 1867 and 2020. The main trunk of the tree was removed in 1925 due to a fungal attack.

The #Gillett_&_Johnston clock tower inside the #Bishop's_College campus. Installed in 1919, this clock is still operational today. The only other Gillett and Johnston clock in the city is the one on the #New_Market clock tower in #Kolkata.

Yesterday's cemetery tour with Jan O. Staal from the Netherlands 🇳🇱. He arrived in #Kolkata just yesterday and almost instantly got in touch with me for the walk. He was full of enthusiasm, curiosity, and very supportive throughout the session, and I loved answering his queries.
