Time for a coat change? We examined how serotype switching from O-antigen O4 to O12 alters pathogenicity traits in P. aeruginosa high-risk clone ST111. Effects on motility, adhesion and virulence may help to explain the global “success” of ST111 O12 biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

We describe a novel CTX-M betalactamase that confers resistance toward first-line treatment Pip/tazo. We show by enzyme kinetics that this new enzyme has general resistance towards betalactamase inhibitors. We find the enzyme in DK and German isolates. academic.oup.com/jac/advance-ar…

Important to discuss how the future of microbiology looks like and how to shape this future. From your top-right photo it appears that you also/indeed focus on the issue of diversity and gender bias....

How do the different O-antigen structures (serotypes) of P. aeruginosa contribute to the biology of this pathogen? Using isogenic strains systematically engineered to express different serotypes, Mikkel Anbo gave the answer(s) yesterday at his PhD defence. Congrats, Mikkel!

This was indeed a "community-level effort" in the @cemist_dtu family!

with Zsófia Dénes the enthusiastic MSc student; @neftalyl, the SynCom wisperer; @mario_wib, @scott_jarmusch and Aaron Andersen, the natural products wizards; @Mikael_lenz, the bioinfo guru - a true @cemist_dtu collaboration funded by @GrundforskFond at @DTUbioengineer

How do soil microbiomes respond to antibiotics from biocontrol strains? Here, we find biotransformation of a cyclic lipopeptide as one of the community-level resistance mechanisms in a soil bacteria SynCom. Does the “fate” of secondary metabolites add to biocontrol variation?

Superb work by @LindqvistHansen from @cemist_dtu led by @LarsJelsbak now in bioRxiv: Resistance towards and biotransformation of Pseudomonas-produced secondary metabolites during community invasion - nice to see the CeMiSt soil SynCom in action biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

A new example of parasites that change host behaviors? Extensive control of bacterial behaviors by plasmids. Zombie-ants (fungal infection), fear-negating effects of Toxoplasma in rats, and now….bacteria with eating and movement disorders caused by plasmid infections....

Plasmids manipulate host cells to their benefit. @catriona1392 @brockhurstlab &co describe a #plasmid-borne translational regulator that subverts ecological traits in #bacteria, inducing community organization & promoting plasmid transmission #PLOSBiology plos.io/3I4NES6
