Very pleased to see our paper (my co-author @ines_zeh) on the impact of informal financial arrangements on households' ability to cope with shocks in Nigeria published in @_Food_Policy
I just saw an entry by a prominent causal effects person using the phrase "OLS specification." This description is no better than "OLS model," so I'm reposting this thread.
I'm seeing the phrase "OLS model" crop up again, sometimes in high places. Remember, OLS is an estimator, not a model. Consider two models for estimating a treatment effect, with x the controls, w the treatment indicator.
Happy International Woman’s Day! Some bits of career advice from me…
2023 was a "back-to-basics" year for me. 1. I served on a panel called "What is a Standard Error?" 2. I co-wrote a paper where the first line of the abstract includes "Gauss-Markov Theorem." 3. I learned more about how to define dummy interactions for diff-in-diffs estimation.
My research lies at the intersection of modern econometrics and traditional econometrics. Which makes it like luke warm water.
💯 This same advice applies to choosing research topics. There is a chance one may “fail” in academia regardless of how one plays the game. Might as well enjoy what you are doing, who you interact with, etc. along the way.
It is my great pleasure to share our recent publication with François on "Structural identification of weather impacts on crop yields" if you want to know more, see the nice thread by François... if you are interested by the paper here is a preprint tinyurl.com/3b5udwma
I am delighted to see my last joint paper with @RajaChakir3 published in @AJAE_AAEA 🙂 This paper provides a new framework to understand the impacts of weather shocks on crop yield deviations. Here is a thread on our main uptakes 👇 (1/9)
