Securing a Kenyan ID has become one of the most difficult process for most citizens even as the govt transitions to a 3rd generation ID card that should offer universal ID coverage. About 1 in every 10 Kenyans struggle to obtain an ID. Make IDs accessible for all! #MyIDMyRight

The technical specifications for the EU digital identity wallets are becoming politicized as the Commission clashes with some EU countries led by Germany. The implementing acts that have become contentious might cause delays to the wallet's timeline. content.mlex.com/#/content/1602…

1/7 @DRSKenya @burugu_j I have some thoughts on this - am struggling to find the specific "international refugee law" and section of Kenya law that directs refugees and asylum seekers to surrender country of origin passport to Government department in country of asylum

2/2 This directive is in line with international refugee laws and the Refugee Act of 2021. All refugees are required to surrender their country of origin passports within 30 days. Failure to comply may result in legal consequences.

Looking for a PhD topic? A comprehensive & critical analysis of UNHCR's Executive Committee (its origins, evolution, functions, etc) is badly needed. An important (if not especially exciting) issue! Start here: unhcr.org/publications/b…

The thing about being a Palestinian academic right now is that you are blamed for the stress and guilt your colleagues & supervisors feel for ignoring a genocide, because your existence is a reminder, even as you swallow your grief & anger till your heart feels heavy like a stone.

A shout-out to @Haki_na_Sheria . I just returned from Nairobi, where the Haki na Sheria team & I conducted focus groups & interviews to learn about the challenges migrants/refugees face w/ identification. The report is soon to follow! Always an amazing experience working w/ them.

Another great piece from @margchee "This study is not just a cautionary tale for practitioners in aid. Beyond refugee camps and beyond blockchain, the conjuring of innovation products can take precedence over delivering meaningful value to the people they enrol."

Conjuring innovation🪄 Tech pilots aren’t just designed to help people. Regardless of what they achieve, they are valuable products for aid industry actors to promote: medium.com/caribou-digita… ^This blog summarises my new research on tech pilots in aid: tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…
