I'm excited to be presenting at the FDA/CMS Summit this afternoon, after FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb's keynote address.

I was looking for a list of recommended books for ombuds and Voila, I stumble upon this list. Thank you, @maryconger and @OmbudsBlog #ombuds #ombudsman #resources

This video reminds me of a quote from Mike Ditka, coach for the Chicago Bears, “If winning was easy, then everyone would do it.”

If you watch one thing today, make it Giannis Antetokounmpo's response to a question on failure. 📹 @Bucks | @Giannis_An34 | @NBA

When statisticians build a model from data, they say "the data says". When AI researchers build a model from data, they say "the model says". The net result is members of public and even some AI researchers don't understand that an AI is just the input data in a different form.

Great visual, @kareem_carr The issue also reminds me of Frankenstein, when the monster attacks the scientist that created it.

We need more explanations like this for a large variety of scientific concepts. Thanks, @kareem_carr

This is actually how "confidence intervals" work in statistics. I'm being 100% serious. Read on. This is a really fun concept. twitter.com/HumansNoContex…

Statistics can never be completely objective. This is not just my opinion. It's a *mathematical* fact. Read on if you want to learn a deep fundamental truth about data and its relationship to the universe we live in.

“One of the most important things I have learned as an ombudsman is also one of the simplest -- Sometimes, someone just needs to be heard, even if you cannot directly help them.” ~Danee Garone, Senior Staff Attorney, Arizona Ombudsman Citizens’ Aide #TeachingThursday

Fantastic presentation of data about risks. Reminds me of my early days of working with medical devices like pacemakers. "Device failure" was frequently assumed as the cause, but it usually turned out to be something more common, like lead dislodgement.

Read a great Reddit thread putting historical dates in perspective. Here are 8 gems. 1/ The moon landing was only 66 years after the Wright Brothers first flight (1903-1969). Within a lifetime, humans went from having limited flight tech to travelling ~239k miles from Earth.

I’ve always loved the song and the story. Check out this thread.

47 years ago today the SS Edmund Fitzgerald sank in Lake Superior. In this thread I'm going to discuss a few things: - The actual story - The Gordon Lightfoot song - The different roles of an artist/storyteller and an educator - Why it's ok to say we were wrong
