Maybe a good time to remind people that journalism …. is citizen journalism. Journalists are your neighbors, friends, the people you run into at the grocery store. I’m just a mom, sister, daughter, auntie and granddaughter doing my best to help people understand the world.

If you've dumped your Washington Post subscription, I hope you'll consider investing that money in a local, independent publication wherever you live. I can assure you its impact will be felt in a much more meaningful way.

Hey friends, before you send that “tHe MeDiA iSnT cOvErInG tHiS” tweet, ask yourself: 1. Did i look? Or did i expect coverage to just show up on my TL? 2. How hard did i look? 3. Are there ethical reasons/extenuating factors preventing or limiting coverage? Kk thanks 🙏🏽

There's a million things to say about Western NC right now, almost all of which seem to have been already said. All I can say right now is that I'm thankful my friends and family are safe. And this might be the scariest part to me. Lots of love back home 💙💙

National media isn’t getting the full picture of the utter devastation in Western North Carolina. They can’t. Most of the area remains without cell service or WiFi. There’s no electricity & water, minimal food & fuel. Roads are destroyed. Flooding continues in the region. #Helene

Wrote a little something about life, memory, music and leaving my editorial position at the Daily Tar Heel <3 dailytarheel.com/article/2024/0…

Well, it was about time @Lucymarques_ and I wrote a Taylor Swift story... and how much sweeter is it that we did it together? And maybe even sweeter that it's the first story of the year? @DTHCityState, let's do this.

The moment Lucia Hugelmeyer received a hat from Taylor Swift at The Eras Tour, a spark of inspiration arose to become a performer. Read the full story: "'She's fearless': Nine-year-old Chapel Hill dancer inspired by moment with Taylor Swift" bit.ly/3SVWBU2

One of my last bylines at @Hickoryrecord but by far one of my favorites and a good way to sign off. Hickory, thanks for having me back for the summer!

“When they get all the streets done, I see Newton becoming a popular hub,” Carver said. hickoryrecord.com/news/local/bus…

Not my byline... but something I am pretty excited about as a HKY native. Ridgeview and Art Walk next!!!!! @CityofHickory

The Aviation Walk trailhead is off U.S. Highway 321 NW, Hickory. hickoryrecord.com/news/local/gov…

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Journalism tip: Disabled people's needs are just needs – they're not special. That's why us journalists should not be using the term "special needs" in articles.
