Prescribed psychotropic drug withdrawal and iatrogenesis can be so complex, disabling & misunderstood that it should be a specialized field in medicine.

I've been practicing psychiatry for 38 years. I love my job, my peers, and my patients. But I've come to the conclusion that I'm participating in the biggest intellectual scam of this era. We claim to be a science, but have no understanding how thought or behavior is generated./1

I take an antidepressant daily - not because it is beneficial but because I am unable to cease it abruptly. To do so would be intolerable and life threatening. My prescribers did not inform me of these risks and they were unable to help me taper safely. #InformedConsent #WMHD

Post-SSRI sexual dysfunction (PSSD) has been added to the SNOMED diagnostic codes internationally so that it can now be recorded by doctors as a diagnosis. Hopefully this will help the system to determine the full extent of the issue. @PSSDNetwork @DrDavidHealy @TonyAvery1

Prozac does not cause withdrawal.

Being forcibly injected with a long-acting form of an antipsychotic has to be one of the most horrendous acts of poisoning a human being that one can possibly imagine. The fact that these poisonings are routinely taking place in our society is barbaric and entirely unacceptable.

That’s what I’m thinking, benzos acutely helped me, how effective is propanol is something I wonder at treating it and what are ways of resolving it so people don’t miss months and years of their life to akathisia, it leads to prescribing cascades like in my case with the lexapro

KShmwl Reposted

If there’s safe ways of resolving it, I’m all on deck but I’d like to know as it should be something that is addressed and solved immediately when it occurs. These big pharma companies should be funding this kind of research as a penalty for not perfecting their craft

Psy systems said my emotions were too big and out of control, my altered states too strange and dangerous. But the thing is, like many others, my experiences of injustice have been big, out of control, strange & dangerous.

Psychiatry's harmed patients are disabled and dying, with nearly all receiving no medical assistance, many left completely isolated and in dire poverty, while some of the most privileged people on earth label them "pill-shamers".

Would you be so kind and answer a couple polls? (Repost if you're interested. Thank you very much.) If you were prescribed psychiatric medication, did your doctor discuss associated risks and side effects with you?

As a child, I was terrified of people because I was living with monsters. What confused me the most was when they were out in public; they were nice people, so I just assumed everyone was pretending to be nice. Not one MH worker told me they weren’t going to hurt me. They never…

Fantastic to see this research on Alt2Su groups! Co-facilitating our Alt2Su group in Naarm/Melbourne each Sunday feels so precious. It’s just one little group, yet it’s real sanctuary outside the psych system. So much in this report resonates. Thank you to the authors. 💜✊

New paper is out! My colleagues and I at @USyd_SSESW just published: “Exploring the experiences and impacts of a peer- based approach to responding to suicidal distress” Thank you @NSWHealth who funded & published the project. We explored the outcomes of NSW residents…

My son reached that point after 18-months of instability on the drugs. Faced with the offer of another drug change by his psychiatrist (and nothing else) my son chose to opt out. After a hellish withdrawal, he discovered that his ‘illness’ was being caused by the drugs.

Patients lose sense of who they are when medicated for decades. They wonder what is me, what is the drug, what are side effects, what is my baseline? It is very confusing. For many, they have no choice but to #deprescribe to find out who they are. #psychtwitter #socialwork

In no particular order: - Protracted Antidepressant Withdrawal Syndrome - Benzodiazepine induced Neurological Dysfunction - Akathisia - Tardive Akathisia - Tardive dyskinesia - Tardive dystonia - ECT brain damage - PSSD Feel free to add more in the comments….

Some of the most serious and difficult-to-treat conditions in psychiatry are iatrogenic.
