Very important fact—and largely why big donors have the power to pick and choose candidates by playing hard in primaries.

One thing to keep in mind is Virginia does not have campaign contribution limits for state elections So easier for big donors to fund races directly compared to Federal elections Takes away Dem edge in grassroots fundraising they often enjoy in Congressional races

Democrats need to break the back of the corrupt towing industry. I've been working on an idea for legislation that would send text notifications to drivers if their car is about to get towed. Have to imagine this mother would have appreciated that here. washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2023/…

Elections should have quorums. If your political parties can't get at least half of the residents in a district out to vote then tough luck, election's voided and we gotta do it all over again. 10% turnout in an election is not democracy. It's oligarchy.

Meanwhile, this is what the Arlington Democrats are doing in 2023: - Rigging elections for the General Assembly, so you can't pick your representation in the state legislature -Nominating an anti-housing candidate to an all-white County Board Make. It. Make. Sense.

Huge thanks to @ARLnowDOTcom for shining a spotlight here. Arlingtonians living in poverty have been blaring red sirens about the lack of attention from county leaders for DECADES. South Arlington is getting pickleball courts when it should be getting RENTAL ASSISTANCE.

Report: More than half of South Arlington families struggle to afford basic needs arlnow.com/2023/09/01/rep…

We are living in the middle of a crisis. And if your elected leaders aren’t talking about this AT EVERY OPPORTUNITY, then they’re not nearly focused enough.

In Virginia, the number of patients deemed a threat to themselves or others leaving health care facilities before receiving proper treatment has nearly tripled since 2020. virginiamercury.com/2023/06/26/mor…

If Arlington is going to purport to be a place that welcomes and includes immigrants and the poor, then we need to start seeing that in how we run our elections. But as usual, Arlington’s elected officials are giving us the bare minimum and hoping that it’ll be enough:

Democrats had the power to end all of that and more, and they didn’t. So instead of performative progressivism, can we get real change for once?

My favorite thing is when Democratic elected officials scream all over Twitter about things they don’t like that they should have easily fixed back when they were in power. Like: Open primaries? Unlimited campaign donations? Money from state utility monopolies? Crocodile tears.

Thanks @teoarmus for putting the spotlight on the state of Arlington’s elections this year. Deeply appreciated being allowed to share some of my concerns for your piece! wapo.st/3CzFfnx

One of the best places to be a queer person in the 20th century was 1920s Berlin. And one of the worst places to be a queer person in the 20th century was the exact same city just a decade later. None of our rights are permanent. Political representation is our only protection.

Republican acceptance of same-sex relationships dropped 15 percentage points last year, from 56% to 41%. Also visible but slight decline among Democrats. news.gallup.com/poll/507230/fe…

Youngkin is wasting $3 million to send the National Guard on a photo-op field trip to the southern border for a fake crisis while actually undermining Virginia’s ability to address the very serious threat air pollution is posing from our northern border (and everywhere else).

🚨 BREAKING: Per Gov Youngkin’s directive, the State Air Pollution Control Board just withdrew Virginia from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI). Sickly ironic news on a day when the Richmond skyline is blotted out by thick smoke from wildfires. washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2023/…
