Thrilled to announce that our student, @HuangFan_Hoan, has had his first long paper (on evaluating LLM's capability to 'rate' the quality of explanations) accepted for presentation at LREC-COLING 2024! and the work is with @haewoon as well :) More details coming soon!
This paper finally got published from EPJ Data Science 🙏 epjdatascience.springeropen.com/articles/10.11…
🚨 New preprint!! We explore tweets about generative AIs, focusing on occupation and usage. w/ @hkefka385 @utaka233 @JisunAn @haewoon Link: arxiv.org/abs/2305.09537 🧵 1/N
Regarding the plane collision that occurred yesterday at Tokyo International Airport (no fatalities on the JAL plane that burst into flames despite 379 people on board), it seems 338 posts praising the JAL attendants were posted at almost the same time, exactly word for word.
This is terrible - the most useful account on this site for spreading reliable information on the quake in both Japanese and English has reached its API limit on X and can no longer send automated tweets on quakes and tsunamis. Sort it out please @elonmusk
Today, Japan experienced a major earthquake. Although X remains a key platform for sharing information in the crisis, the current timeline is now polluted with spam posts, all chasing high impressions. Unfortunately, the API that allowed us to analyze them is no longer available.
Following Monday's magnitude 7.6 earthquake in Ishikawa Prefecture on the Sea of Japan, seismic activity has been observed continuously in the area. www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/ne…

Humbled and honored to receive an Outstanding Dissertation Award Runner-Up at #KDD2023! A huge thank you to my advisor Stefano Ceri and all my wonderful co-authors and colleagues!
About 10 years ago, my friends gave the nickname Dr. Yan. Today, I can proudly say it's no longer just a nickname! The six years I spent at @IUMediaSchool and @IULuddy were undeniably the best time of my life. Now, I am excited for the new chapter as a visiting AP at @TAMUComm!
ICYMI: quite apropos now that Musk has disabled Botometer Elon Musk has portrayed himself as a champion of transparency, so why has he made Twitter more opaque? bloomberg.com/opinion/articl… via @fayeflam
One of our key sources of human data is no longer fully “human"! We estimate that 33-46% of crowd workers on MTurk used large language models (LLMs) in a text production task - which may increase as ChatGPT and the like become more popular and powerful. arxiv.org/abs/2306.07899
My first ICWSM was a blast and ended with quite the surprise! It was great to meet new people and explore Limassol. And of course, nothing topped getting to see @whocheers for the first time in 2 years 😊!!
The Best Paper Award for ICWSM 2023 goes to: "Google the Gatekeeper: How Search Components Affect Clicks and Attention" by @jeffreylgleason @whocheers @RERobertson and @bowlinearl
So happy to attend #ICWSM23 . It has been my dream to come here. I could get a lot of inspiration, stimuli, and new friends ☺️ Thanks!
This’s me! Thank you!
Kunihiro Miyazaki (Indiana University) explains how sportaneous debunking happened on Twitter to COVID-19 false information at #ICWSM23. Tldr: most fake tweets are left undebunked and that sportaneous debunking is slower compared to other forms of responses!
