Thank you to the BBC for their extensive programmes on CTE today. Learn from the past. Focus on the future. The only cure is prevention so reduction of heading in training is crucial.

Excellent piece of coverage on @BBCBreakfast with @TVNaga01 & Charlie Stayt surrounding the dangers of heading in football. Dr @JudithMGates shared how severe CTE was to blame for Bill Gates' death & how we must act now to use this vital knowledge to safeguard our youth.

I appreciate the opportunity to raise public awareness about CTE. Those of us who know at first hand the devastation it causes are committed to safeguarding all players.

Tune in to @BBCBreakfast tomorrow morning to catch Founder and trustee of Head Safe Football, Dr. Judith Gates discussing all things Head Safe Football! 🐘⚽ loom.ly/Q4l34Mg

Judith Gates Reposted

Thanks to the work by groups and people like @headsafecharity and @WillStewNeuro the NHS now recognises CTE in contact sports and advises patients to inform their GPs of their sporting history. CTE is a young persons disease that progresses over time. nhs.uk/conditions/chr…

Evidence based truth. A valid aim!

The story of football's tragic dementia link took me to Crook in Durham for a pre-inquest hearing into the former M'brough defender Bill Gates. The family donated Bill's brain in their search for the truth. The FA? They tried to curtail the inquest: telegraph.co.uk/football/2024/…

All we want is the ‘truth’. Bill deserves no less. And all other players and their families are entitled to full information.

'Appalling', 'madness', 'shocking' ... and a call for a parliamentary inquiry. Families react to the FA's barrister telling a coroner that he shouldn't investigate whether former player with devastating brain disease was killed by his job: telegraph.co.uk/football/2024/…

We need to consider the evidence in order to know the truth. How else can we safeguard all other players?

Thank you @JWTelegraph We strive for evidence-based truth for Bill & his family, and the safeguarding of present and future players of the game we all love ⚽️

My family are asking for the evidence about Bill’s death to be the subject of an inquest in order to inform and protect all players - a constructive approach to a very real problem.

FA tried to prevent inquest into football’s role in defender Bill Gates’ death. They claimed, it was not in public interest to investigate if football killed him. An autopsy found the highest possible level of CTE…..a degenerative brain disease 😡🧠 telegraph.co.uk/football/2024/….

Focus on the future. Bill never headed a ball after the age of 29. CTE brain disease begins in youth. Bill’s legacy - education to safeguard today’s players on the dangers of repetitive head impacts,

Breaking news! @Killingworth_FC Under 15s has partnered with Head Safe Football to become its first HeadSAFE Trailblazer! 🐘⚽ The team will wear our logo on their shirts, kindly sponsored by award winning solicitors, @SlaterGordonUK #HeadSafeFootball

A 5 minute video from Sky Sports News which illustrates so well the collaboration between science and football with the aim of safeguarding all players.

We'd like to thank @SkySportsNews for the coverage of the #GenerationsGame! ⚽ And, for raising awareness of our mission to protect our youth from the dangers of repetitive head impacts in football. Please give up 5 minutes of your time to watch! 🔗 loom.ly/-EVmJzo

I am learning SO MUCH from so many useful conversations. In order to safeguard the future, football must listen to the science today.

After a brilliant day on Sunday for Bill Gates' Legacy, The Generations Game, HSF Founder and trustee Dr. Judith Gates is excited to remain in Cambridge for @INTS NeuroTrauma 2024! ⭐ Dr. Gates will be in the exhibition hall with plenty of copies of No-Brainer by Mike Amos. 📚

Phenomenal. The level of energy, commitment and interest was sky high. Thank you to everyone involved. Football must listen to science. Reduce heading in training. Safeguard all players.

The most important game of football since 1863! ⚽ Yesterday, as a part of @INTS2024, the #GenerationsGame was played for the Bill Gates trophy in blazing sunshine on Parkers Piece, Cambridge, where the first rules of football were created, resulting in an honourable 6-6 tie.

Hayley and I understand only too well the tragedy of sports related dementia. Our memories of Gordon and Bill are painful as well as precious. So grateful for Hayley’s support in helping Head Safe Football safeguard all players through education and advocacy.

As many know, brain health is a cause close to my heart & I’m proud to support @HeadSafeCharity #GenerationsGame - the first of its kind  to involve global scientists. The event is dedicated to advancing brain health in football & ensuring young & future players are safeguarded.

Thank you, Alan, for your invaluable support for a unique event. Let’s learn from the scientists in order to safeguard all players.

Happy to support the @HeadSafeCharity #GenerationsGame & their work with scientists from around the world to protect our young & future players. The event is a vital step forward & I encourage players, coaches & fans to get involved & help make the game we love safer for everyone…

𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴! 👀⚽ Head Safe Football is looking forward to holding an extraordinary game of football at a very special venue later this year! Keep your eyes peeled for updates!

Thanks Andy. I hope every club facilitator at Sporting Memories reads it, as you advise. @SportsMemNet Only through awareness can we safeguard the future.

@JudithMGates - I’ve learnt so much from this book ……the paragraphs below in particular jumped out at me. Thanks for supporting the author with this. @SportsMemNet - I’d recommend this o every club facilitator

Bill Gates’ legacy. Awareness raising is important but insufficient. Additional comprehensive education on brain health is necessary to safeguard young players of today and tomorrow.

Huge thanks to @MFCFoundation & @boro for having us earlier in the week to deliver a session highlighting the short & long-term impacts of heading in football. The talk sparked some brilliant ideas on educating young people about brain health & safety ⚽🐘 #HeadSafeFootball

In order to maintain professional credibility, it is crucial that the Industrial Injuries Advisory Council should not include members with a conflict of interest based on their own research. Applications for industrial disease designation are entitled to unbiased consideration.

I share van Tulleken’s conflict-of-interest concerns: 3 co-authors of our football HEADING Study (funded by @theDrakefdn ) have been on the Industrial Injuries Advisory Council to decide if dementia should be an industrial injury for football. telegraph.co.uk/football/2024/…

Think a-head. Head Safe Football. Protect your brain - educate about the dangers of CTE, reduce heading, safeguard the future of football and footballers. bbc.co.uk/news/uk-englan…
