Authentic humility is grounded in the fact that I came from dust, I remain dust, and will one day soon return to dust.

Let me get this straight. Democrats are outraged over Tony Hinchcliff’s Puerto Rico joke but they are not outraged over Puerto Rican influencer "Mimi" Rodriguez-Ramirez killed by an illegal alien in Georgia. I got it.

The language of "trauma-informed" is used a lot today. In this piece over at @missioalliance, a former student and friend @cherylyou talks about the journey of becoming a trauma-informed pastor. A really helpful article! missioalliance.org/the-ongoing-jo…

When Jesus invites us to come and find rest, he doesn’t magically apply rest to our busy lives. Instead, he invites us to learn from him. He invites us to change by way of exchange. His sufficiency for our striving. His acceptance for our anxiety. His love for our longings.

Just officiated a stunning wedding in Vermont for dear friends who attend our church. I was again reminded why weddings renew my soul. Because someday, Church, we will be whisked away—to a destination beyond belief—to be eternally joined with the One our soul desires.

Think for a moment about the desperation that Jesus’ followers must have felt on Easter Saturday. Hope was dead. Now remember what happened next. Apply this to your story, Christian. God has a future for you that you can’t possibly fathom. He is alive. And so is hope.

Good Friday is not meant as an observance of sentimentality. Instead it is meant for us to behold reality. In the broken body of Christ upon the cross, we see a portrait of the true condition of our soul, ravaged by sin. And we see the price paid to purchase our redemption.

Often the voice of our inner critic is mistaken for the voice of God. It is not.

Watching Insigne play for Italy makes me think, “Man, Steve Furtick plays soccer too?!?!?”

I gently let my wife know that both Euro 2020 and the Copa América start this weekend. She responded by saying, “So I guess I lose you for the next month, right?“ After 27 years of marriage, I think she’s finally beginning to understand me. Next mission: to get HER to watch!!!

I would like to take a moment and express my deepest gratitude to my wife for her prolific use of the snooze button. Her record is twelve times on a weekday morning, and twenty-six on a weekend. But her greatest accomplishment? Now she’s got me doing it, too. Every morning.

The moment you realize that “The Gambler” by Kenny Rogers has nothing to do with poker or gambling but is actually a song about a depressed guy riding on a train with a dead guy. I love music from the 70’s.

Slow driver in passing lane. Eventually I pass on the right. Wife: Does giving him “the look” make a difference? Me: Yes. I subliminally sent him a message to move over. Wife: (Silence) Me, receiving her subliminal message: Ok, maybe I am an idiot. But it IS the law…

The hardest thing about celebrating 27 years married is there is no gift that adequately expresses the fact that I SO got the better end of the deal. I mean, most guys marry “up”. I married “Dubai Skyscraper” up… #happyanniversarydenise #iloveyou

My wife and I celebrate 27 years married tomorrow. So I am upping my game and buying her everything that she’s placed in our Amazon cart to decide on later. That is, if the home equity loan gets approved.
