The only infrastructure that can actually be built, because there are no nimby fish.
Another refinery switches to gas from fuel oil
Emarat has officially commenced the supply of natural gas to Fujairah Refinery Ltd. This collaboration marks a significant step toward enhancing energy efficiency and supporting sustainable operations in the region. Together, we’re fueling a greener future! 🌿
Comparing batteries to nuclear power plants is misleading. One provides short term back up, the other base load. The use of the word "reactors" is also designed to mislead. Hinkley C will have 3.3 GW of capacity, Barakah (UAE) 5.6 GW. theguardian.com/environment/20…
One of the few major gas projects in Europe now faces a court challenge from Greenpeace. Putin's useful idiots greenpeace.org/romania/comuni…
For me the most interesting thing about this phenomena is that industrial usage of this excess (in place of gas) is not possible because of high fixed costs embedded in power prices. Enable consumers to take advantage of cheap power and the decline in value is much less severe.
The value of wind and especially solar tends to decline for high penetration. Average Market value (day-ahead price) in function of average generation in Germany 2024. More value is produced on average when solar generates 20 GW than 40 GW. Interesting, no ? @BurggrabenH
Phillips 66 will close its Los Angeles refinery in 2025 2 days ago Governor Newsom signed new legislation to give new regulatory oversight for refineries, to ensure security of supply. The road to hell is paved with good intentions investor.phillips66.com/financial-info…
IF: Russia cuts gas at the end of 2024 & We have issues with LNG supply & We have an extra cold winter Only then do we have a problem this winter
@ENTSOG published its Winter Supply Outlook 2024/2025 & Winter Supply Review 2023/2024 ❄ Similar to previous editions, the report comprises a Union-wide simulation of #gas supply & #infrastructure disruption scenarios, including a wide variety of sensitivities not only for…
When the government picks the technology rather than the market, you will always have bitter arguments. @DaleVince is correct that the efficiency gains of heat pumps are negated by more expensive electricity. However more expensive biogas doesn't solve the problem either.
Why Nations Fail is a great read, for those of us who don't plan to read the academic stuff

A decent stab at what global oil demand might be in 2050. Shows all the workings. Those who disagree can also show their workings.
(1/20) OPEC's World Oil Outlook Report 2024 pegs oil demand at 120 million bpd in 2050 vs. 102 million bpd in 2023 i.e. +18 mmbpd Sources of Growth (in million bpd) a) India = 8.0 b) China = 2.5 c) Other Asia = 5.2 d) LatAm = 3.0 Others Net Wash Is this realistic? A 🧵

There are not many Middle Eastern oil producers that you can actually invest in. There is about to be one more.
A new phrase for my vocabulary. "Regulatory Rentierism" It describes the UK brilliantly and explains why we have had sclerotic growth for so long.
Had a number of people ask: what is ‘regulatory rentierism’: a situation where a state-quangocracy extracts economic rent through regulatory power rather than through productive activities and that is incentivised to expand power/rents. Often justified through moral policing.
CO2 is not the ONLY environmental issue. Ecosystems are being destroyed due to excess water extraction, but a new reservoir, would stop one council area from becoming carbon neutral by 2045. So they are against it. bbc.com/news/articles/…
This reasoning is so stupid Leave aside the fact that natural gas prices in the USA are low, and consumers are rich by global standards. Can you imagine this logic being applied to any other industry. GM, Boeing, Caterpillar told they can't export, to keep prices lower.
This is the kicker. The reason why the industry wants to build LNG terminals is so that gas costs will go up. It is not to benefit US energy consumers.
We all want to improve public transport, until it comes to building actually it. Portishead, the largest town in Britain without a railway station, close to Booming Bristol, its a no brainer. The planning system is nothing more than a corrupt gravy train for bureaucrats
To re-open 3 miles of track to Portishead, the local council had to complete a 79,187 page long planning application. If printed out, that's 14.6 miles of paper (4 1/2 times the line itself!). Then they had to wait 3 years for approval. Yet now this project may be scrapped.🧵
The king of energy insecurity is to host a conference on... Energy Security It's like Harold Shipman hosting a conference on safety for the elderly.
Looking forward to hosting the first Future of Energy Security Summit in the UK next year alongside @fbirol Putin's invasion of Ukraine has threatened global energy security. Unifying global action for clean, secure energy will help end reliance on fossil fuels for good.
