That’s not easy 🤣

Inverse Cramer is beating Pelosi in the market 🤣

People are memeing on this, and it's great and funny, but I think there's a more fundamental idea here: make it as easy as possible for people to find (and get ahold of) your product/business. The millions paid are well worth it, is my guess.

The opacity of academic prose arises from the epistemological imperative to operationalize disciplinary jargon, facilitating intra-specialized discourse while obfuscating heterogenous interpretive accessibility and perpetuating a recursive dialectic of erudition and exclusion.

Why is academic writing so awful?

Optimization is a gateway drug to derivatives. Histograms are a gateway drug to integration. We should be teaching kids data science and calculus at the same time.

One of the weird things about the "data science in high school" movement is that you can't do much data science without calculus.

Don’t worry if your A level results aren’t what you were hoping for. I got a C and two Us, and here I am, 46 years later, with my own pub. It opens next weekend if you fancy dropping in.

idk what’s worse, that crowdstrike has kernel access to basically every system in the world or that airlines run on windows server

During the first 8 years of The Ocean Cleanup, we collected 314,000 kg of trash. We're now collecting the same amount... every 4.5 days.

Impact update: we have passed a total of 15,000,000 kg of trash removed from oceans and rivers worldwide. More river deployments coming soon.

Don't use Sci-Hub — it's a "controversial" website with 84M+ research papers freely available. We should try to make billion-dollar academic publishers richer. Here's an updated thread on integrating Sci-Hub with Zotero to get free papers. Please don't do this😉

Congrats to OpenAI for the release of GPT-4o! 2x faster and 50% cheaper tokens will be great for everyone using agentic AI workflows. When an agentic job that used to take 10min now takes 5min just by switching APIs, that's great progress!

GPT-4o is now available in the API. It’s as smart as GPT-4 Turbo, has improved vision capabilities, and is much more efficient—2x faster, 50% cheaper, 5x rate limits. It supports text and vision today, with audio and video coming soon. Details in thread 🧵 openai.com/index/hello-gp…

As long as AI systems are trained to reproduce human-generated data (e.g. text) and have no search/planning/reasoning capability, performance will saturate below or around human level. Furthermore, the amount of trials needed to reach that level will be far larger than the…

Interesting how in all these domains AI is asymptoting at roughly human performance - where's the AI zooming past us to superintelligence that Kurzweil etc. predicted/feared?

It’s over (for now). A majority of senators caved to the fearmongering and bush league tactics of the administration and surveillance hawks in Congress, and they sold out Americans’ civil liberties. Section 702 has been reauthorized, not just without any meaningful reforms… 1/10
