I guess you could say they are feeling crabby... Pharaoh Cuttlefish (Acanthosepion pharaonis) do this unique arm posture and flapping technique which is thought to be them mimicking a hermit crab. I guess they got jealous of crustaceans having all the fun with carcinization.

The Squarespot Anthias (Pseudanthias pleurotaenia) is one of the most common species of anthias in the western Pacific. Yet, it's so incredibly beautiful that I probably photographed it hundreds of times! This is my best photo of it, taken in Bali. #ichthyology

This Muuscoctopus, a genus of deep-sea octopus, was spotted along #ChileMargin2024, where the confluence of tectonic forces & terrestrial influences makes this margin a natural lab for investigating chemosynthetic & deep-sea environments that host remarkable biodiversity.

Say hello to the juvenile thornback cowfish, an underwater gourmet savoring algae on the sandy floor! 🍴🌿 With each sip, it enjoys a toxin-protected feast, keeping pesky neighbors away. Buon appetito, little one! 🌱✨ 🎥 by @shapesofblue

Some polychaetes are bioluminescent; this sassy sparkler has protein structures in the bristles, making them iridescent. Polychaete means many bristles, and each body segment has a pair of fleshy protrusions called parapodia covered in bristles called chaetae. #ChileMargin2024

A many-tentacled creature (Bathyphysa) writhed & wiggled 521 meters from the surface. What could possibly satisfy the insatiable hunger of a colonial organism composed of many zooids working together, each performing a job for survival, like digesting prey or reproduction? 1/2

The Blue Tang (Acanthurus coeruleus) gets its common and scientific name because adults have a deep blue colored body and fins. But their babies are very different: they are bright yellow, and the size when they change to blue varies a lot from one fish to the other. #ichthyology

A bit of a dream achieved. One day in the Lower Amazon and I have ringed a Hoatzin. These are one of the most primitive birds in the world that is considered as being a step away from the archaeopteryx.
