Canadian Jewish Labour Committee
@JewishLabourCAWe are a grassroots collaborative of Jewish workers across Canada, facing down antisemitism and standing in solidarity with Jewish workers everywhere.
The CJLC is appalled by the antisemitic attacks in Amsterdam on November 7. The violence and calls for "globalized the intifada" should be a wake up call to union leaders to stop promoting an antisemitic agenda. CJLC remains committed to supporting Canadian Jewish union members.
We call on Canadian unions to study it, and use it in their own work. We stand more than ready to play our part and contribute. Let's make labour *really* inclusive. (2/2)
CJLC welcomes the Government of Canada's antisemitism handbook released by Special Envoy Ambassador @DeborahLyonsSE It clearly explains what antisemitism is, and how it manifests itself in Canada today. It is a crucial tool to combat Jew hatred. (1/2)
CJLC continues to support Jewish union members in their fight for fair representation, free of discrimination and bias. We call on all union members, and the community, to speak up against the hatred that appears to be condoned by and sometimes expressed from union leaders. 5/5
With CUPE and OPSEU flags seen in the crowd, and union leaders surrounded by signs and symbols that support terrorism, once again our public sector unions are failing its Jewish members as they remain focused on biased, divisive geopolitical agendas. 4/5
This included but was not limited to signs and chants in support of Yahya Sinwar, a known terrorist who was the head of Hamas and orchestrated the October 7 massacre of civilians within Israel. 3/5
The latest rally in Toronto on Sunday October 20th, 2024 saw CUPE Ontario President and CUPE National General Vice President Fred Hahn addressing the crowd while being flanked by signs and symbols in support of terrorism, including images associated with the terrorist groups. 2/5
Public sector unions have again crossed the line between fairly representing Canadian workers and perpetuating vitriolic propaganda which alienates and discriminates against their Jewish members. 1/5
CJLC is sharing an important update on the human rights lawsuit filed against CUPE Ontario and Fred Hahn. We stand firm in our demand for union accountability, particularly when it comes to protecting marginalized member groups within any union. podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/cup…
It is also an attempt to shame Jewish union members exercising their right to file last week’s complaint. The CJLC calls on JP Hornick to condemn this post, and to ensure that this and any similar posts on any OPSEU related media site are promptly removed. 4/4
Nowhere does the writer define this "lobby" because it is fictitious, and antisemitic. This post is an attempt to intimidate, while under the watch of OPSEU’s president JP Hornick at a time when antisemitism has skyrocketed in Canada, and is unacceptable. 3/4
The promoted material, written by a former CUPE Ontario President, accused the “Israel lobby” of attacking unions with “false claims of antisemitism” and “tarnishing” their reputations. The organizations were warned that the “lobby” will come for them too. 2/4
On Yom Kippur while Jews were gathering with their families to begin observing the most solemn day of the year, a post appeared by an OPSEU member actively promoting a centuries-old antisemitic trope in response to the recent Human Rights filing. 1/4
CJLC is concerned that CUPE has adopted a one-sided, polarizing narrative that does nothing to advance Palestinian self-determination nor peace in its recent “International Solidarity Report”. Read our response: canadianjlc.ca/cjlc_response_…
