@JenlHuffI love Jesus. He showed me how much women’s voices matter. From His mother’s to Martha to Mary to Samaritan to the nameless…He listened.

Yes. Yes. Yes.
A significant issue within the Church regarding abuse is that its theology often suggests that all sins are equal, which can lead to minimizing abuse and offering "cheap grace" to perpetrators.
Jesus cried in the garden of gethsemane talking to his father. Jesus cried when his best friend died. Remember this the next time someone calls crying men “betas.”
It is normal to be uncomfortable around people who have traumatized you. It is equally normal to be uncomfortable around people who support them after you've spoken up.
When we urge people to marry as a solution to their problem with lust, we are in grave danger of encouraging them to see their spouse as a legitimate outlet for their lust. As a servant to their sinful desires. This is a hideous and hateful error.
Attn: Current or former @GatewayPeople employees-If you signed an NDA or any other sort of confidentiality agreement & have knowledge of anyone at the church who knew or had suspicion of a child being abused or technically had knowledge of a crime, the NDA may not be enforceable
Absolutely! I have no idea how our lawmakers live with themselves seeing so many predators walk free because of SOL! Reform is desperately needed!
In the aftermath of a victim-survivor whistleblowing about #abuse in an evangelical #church setting, too often we see a toxic response that causes secondary #trauma. Forgiveness is weaponized and abusers are idolized.
Yes.
Yes! You are tithing toward their PR company and NDA payouts. Leave.
Gateway not firing Robert Morris is very significant. The truth will come out. To that end, the best things one can do (aside from prayer, of course): -stop giving -stop going At this point, assume that you are giving into a legal fund and payouts for silence.
Why are predators allowed to resign, thereby opening themselves up to severance packages, etc? Why are they not terminated?
BREAKING: Robert Morris has resigned from Gateway Church in Southlake, Texas. Story to follow.
In my field, if you are convicted of sex abuse, you lose your license. You don't have an option to do a "restoration process" or go to rehab. There's no amount of time you can wait and return. You just simply can't ever be a therapist again We should have these rules for pastors
I’ve changed my mind on plagiarizing. This. All of this.
What good Image Repair might look like from Robert Morris? "First, to Cindy Clemishire: I dispute nothing in your account. I am the guilty party. I did great evil, and continued that evil for years. I did great harm to you and your family. No amount of "I'm sorry" is going to…
There is no "restoration" to the pulpit for a pastor who sexually abuses those under their spiritual care. They are forever disqualified from the role. For men like Hunt and Morris, "restoration" really just means "cover up".
When you explain a pastor’s sexual assault of a minor by saying, “It happened in his 20’s,” you’re giving permission to all the 20 year old men in your church to feel less bad about sexually assaulting women.
It's incredibly telling when we desire to "protect His church" and His work by silencing victims and oppressing the vulnerable, but we don't seek to "protect His church" and His work by saying "don't you dare harm a child in my Savior's name."
I’ve felt this way for years. It makes me wonder if the church has always had these scandals or if we’re becoming more awake to the predation. I’m 51. Anyone in the generation before me have insight into this? My hunch is “there is nothing new under under the sun,” but I’d love…
Recently, I’ve felt a heaviness and a vague sense of discouragement. Today, I wrote down the scandals I’ve read about in the past month: * Robert Morris’s sexual abuse of a child * Tony Evans’ ambiguous failure and PR spin * Seeing the SBC invalidate survivors * The PCA…
Amen
The Lord said to turn them over to Satan and do not even eat with them This means do not restore them, do not built a lodge to restore them, do not call it simply moral failure… “Do not even eat with them” in order to not sully Christs name or work…it’s serious to God
Once we can start calling “moral failure” for what is—criminal choices, we may move forward in protecting the lambs entrusted to us.
This is child sexual assault. It's a crime. And it was buried in the name of Jesus. And it's the same story every time. Sometimes there just are no words sufficient.
