A functional society does not have a shortage of teachers and nurses and an overabundance of police.
When teachers quit by the hundreds of thousands, the problem isn’t teachers. It’s a system that doesn’t value and support their work.
Thing is, I have never met a chronically ill disabled person pretend to be sick or exaggerate their illness for "benefits" but I sure as heck have seen them pretend to be well and power through their pain because ableism demands that of them. Miss me with this "fraud" BS.
What we learned from COVID? That oil is worthless in a society without consumption. That healthcare has to be public because health is public. That 50% of jobs can be done from home while the other 50% deserve more than they're being paid. That we live in a society not an economy
Jon Stewart and the state of Kansas have just reminded us all - that the power of the people is much stronger than the people in power.
If you urgently need a meal, there's no emergency number to call. But if you steal food, there's a 24 hour response so you can be punished for it (it's not a crime prevented by force, just by food). How we design our emergency responses reflects our values but also inertia.
I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it a thousand times: If the punishment for breaking a law is a fine, then that law only exists for the poor.
In the time it takes you to read this tweet, a semi-automatic weapon with a bump stock can fire more than 100 shots. We’ve got to ban these weapons of war. The only thing stopping us is the will to act. And political cowardice. There’s no time to waste.
We are a society that keeps trying to solve homelessness with everything other than homes. It’s like believing that food doesn’t solve hunger.
Mask wearing is literally the same type of thing as refrigerators, sunscreen, bug spray, spaying your pets, cancer screening, seatbelts. NONE of those things work perfectly all the time. But ALL of them help reduce harms some of the time. Harm reduction is the goal.

I refuse to let my granddaughters grow up in a world where they have fewer rights than I did. We will not be silent, we will only grow louder and stronger.
Racism is so rooted in the soil of this country that is not far fetched to consider the blood of our ancestors cries out from time to time.

I get that many of you are laser focused on the Trump years and their aftermath. That type of hatred didn't begin with him. Your outrage is several centuries late.
BLACK LIVES MATTER
⚠️ Explicit Language ⚠️ Police officers in Oak Lawn, IL, were seen repeatedly punching a 17yo on the ground. Now Oak Lawn police are denying their brutal attack, claiming the teens injuries happened when he was tackled despite it being on video! We need accountability!
Inaction is acceptance of oppression.
You cannot change a process you don’t engage with. Anyone promoting political non-participation as a political strategy is an idiot. And may covertly be a colluding agent in policies that directly hurt a specific voting block.
I seen a thing where they said the definition of a poor person is someone who follows the rules…another version of that is “behind every fortune is a crime”…
