Pearse street as is vs. what it could look like with a bit of imagination and political will. Do we want Dublin to be dominated by polluting urban motorways or sustainable, health promoting transport modes? #SustainableTransport

This must be treated as an urgent call to action by @RSAIreland @GardaTraffic @lawlessj @EamonRyan @SimonHarrisTD We need to create a road safety entity with the expertise to determine how we fix this, and the autonomy and courage to call out anyone who stands in its way.

Instead of just urging people to slow down, @RSAIreland - an approach with little proven effect -why not follow the science? Advocate for protected bike lanes! They slow down traffic, boost cycling, improve health, and cut emissions. A win-win for all!

Newly released study shows that separated bike lanes reduce maximum car speeds by 28%, average speeds for turning cars by 21%, and 8% for cars going straight. If cities want to reduce speeding, they should install separated/protected bike lanes—it’ll also get more people biking!

Refshaleøen in Copenhagen is what Poolbeg in Dublin could transform into with a touch of imagination. Once an industrial area, it has now evolved into a vibrant hub for creativity, great food, and innovative urban development. It's easily accessible by bike or public transport.

Contrary to what the media and vested interests claimed, the global and local evidence - right here in Dublin - proves it: restricting car access works! Now, let's push forward with the next change, and the one after that. Let's keep the momentum going! rte.ie/news/dublin/20…
