Happy international #provenanceresearchday /#tagderprovenienzforschung to all who celebrate. Today, a thread on objects that have almost no ownership history. Yes, we acquire unprovenanced works of art (though not antiquities) on a case-by-case basis. But which objects, and why?

Rings true (Cheryl was my aunt)

I passed the exit yesterday where I would get off and get lost trying to find Cheryl Needle’s place. She kept her books in an unheated ell attached to her house. I appreciated this because it made all the fun I was having seem almost like work. She also made me soup.

After seeing the @BeineckeLibrary copy of Gregorio Dati's "La sfera" on exhibition, I took advantage of the newly-open @BPLBoston Special Collections Reading Room to see our 1484 copy in the Rare Books department.🤩

An illustrated peek inside the BPL’s freshly renovated Special Collections for @BostonGlobe . A huge thanks to the @BPLBoston staff who were incredibly generous with their time and expertise. bostonglobe.com/2022/09/15/opi…
