It’s not every day you get to host the WMO Secretary-General. What a highlight for this week!

HRPC was very honored to host @WMO Secretary-General Prof. Celeste Saulo this week! While touring our research capabilities and facility, Prof. Saulo experienced firsthand Singapore’s projected mid-century weather in our climatic chamber and played with VR task simulations.

I've never seen so much white covering the Map of #India and SE #Asia. The white colour indicates temperatures of 45C plus. The risk of heatstroke is very high if exposed to this climate for any length of time. How are people supposed to work outdoors?

Climate change. The world’s biggest exporter of olive oil, Spain, has halved its production due to drought and extreme heat, increasing its price (at origin!) 112% since 2022. It’s happening to other food crops too. Olive oil today, everything else soon.

Sorry but wtf is going on with the price of olive oil??

With a lot more extreme weather on the horizon, energy systems should be able to withstand that. More powerful storms, extreme precipitation events, higher temperatures, droughts, sea level rise...

BREAKING: Hail storm in Damon texas on 3/24/24 destroys 1,000’s of acres of solar farms. Who pays to fix this green energy? @StateFarm? @FarmBureau? @Allstate? Or you the taxpayer?

Alarm bells should be ringing. This is way beyond a warm El Nino year.

February was the 9th consecutive month to set a global temperature record. Combined, 31% of the globe had their warmest Jun-Feb on record and a staggering 50% of the globe has a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd warmest Jun-Feb.

The timing of the peak cherry tree blossom is influenced by spring temperatures. Based on data from Japan stretching back to the year 812 (!), we see that in recent centuries the peak blossom has gradually moved earlier in the year—due to higher temperatures from climate change.
