I’m deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former #Somaliland President, H.E. Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud ‘Silaanyo’, who did so much to put his proud country on the map. My condolences to his family and, indeed, all Somalilanders. May he rest in peace.

Rest in peace Barry. A lovely man and a real character in every sense of the word. It was a pleasure to have been able to enjoy his company, and many laughs, over the years.

Barry Dennis, the bookmaker who became a national figure through his frequent appearances on Channel 4 Racing, has died at the age of 83 racingpost.com/news/britain/l…

I never thought that I’d see the #Northernlights, and certainly not in #Worcester.

Ever noticed these in London?

Chagos islanders living in Britain have told Sky News that they feel 'betrayed' after the UK decided to hand over sovereignty of the remote Chagos Islands to Mauritius following a decades-long dispute. Full story: trib.al/BXlG5Ci

Tony Blair to Jonathan Powell and Alastair Campbell after the handover of Hong Kong: "We shouldn't lose any more territory." "After Hong Kong, we mustn't lose any more territory. Britain's not big enough."

Mauritius has no historic claim to the #Chagos Islands whatsoever. If it was to be handed to anyone, (not that I’d have approved) then it should have been passed to France. This terrible decision is akin to ceding the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands to Uruguay.

‘There’s none so blind as those that see’ Face the facts - Your party is equally complicit, with negotiations going on behind closed doors since way before the general election, conducted by a Foreign Office that shamefully no longer seems to believe in ‘Pax Britannica’.

My first ever gig was in Croydon, aged 11 - The Boomtown Rats. Today’s news about the Chagos Islands reminds me of the lyrics of one of Geldof’s most underrated songs - Another Piece of Red (left my atlas today). youtu.be/03VNJtMuUc0?si…

The handover of the British Indian Ocean Territory to Mauritius is shameful news. The Chagossians did not want this and the British public did not want this. This is a betrayal of regional security, self-determination and sovereignty of a territory which is legally British.

Really sad to learn of the passing of Jeffrey Titford, who really was a gentleman in every sense of the word. Many happy memories of a very good man who was equally liked & respected by political opponents. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

It’s been a good few years since @theandrewe hauled me over the coals during our many interviews on @bbchw & it was great to see him today at the Alfrick and Lulsley Show. Life’s taken us both in different directions now, but it was nice to catch up & see him looking so well.
