OK, let me solve American "economic anxiety" very quickly. I'm gonna sort it out for you in less than ten tweets and then you won't have that excuse anymore. You ready? Here goes. The cause is capitalism and greed. That's it. Nothing else. Just that.

We have really underestimated, as usual, how much this country despises women.

🧵People don’t care that a rich man is a predator, a liar, a bigot & a dolt. Some rationalise their choice on “economy” or 🙄 “family values” but really: He hates the same people they do - and that’s the draw. Trump voters will celebrate, but they’ll learn… he hates them too.

If you get an I Voted sticker for voting early, you should be able to scan it on your TV and all political ads should be replaced by normal commercials

I'm heading to Washington DC this weekend (Oct 18-20) to attend the 2024 @FoodAllergy Food Allergy Summit, looking forward to the discussions and educating others on sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) and its benefits. I hope to see you there!

When you spend a whole day crafting an email for an unreasonable patient, you may be at risk of burnout… …or you’re already burned out and just keep pushing anyways. @DrNikhilaMEng

Clinicians w/ the highest empathy levels & patient satisfaction scores are at a higher risk of burnout. They may feel immense pressure to provide care that is beyond their human limits (physically & emotionally). Just a reminder that you are human & you deserve rest, too.

This unusual allergy is most often caused by the lone-star tick, whose saliva triggers an immune reaction against a molecule, alpha-gal, found in most mammals besides humans. The allergy is also known as alpha-gal syndrome, or AGS.

So, you might have heard about the tick that makes you allergic to red meat. Recently, I started hearing even stranger stories about this tick a.k.a. the lone star tick. 1/2

Starting sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) as soon as possible is key but if you don't start until just before your particular environmental allergy season begins, then a "rush" protocol might be beneficial as well.

On the topic of #hayfever, Allergy London’s Professor @DrAdamFox shares: We're approaching the end of #pollen season, which will bring much-needed relief for those who struggle with hay fever. However, Prof. Fox wanted to quickly mention #sublingual immunotherapy (also known as…

Anyone with an IgE-mediated allergy can benefit from sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT). The cost is the main barrier to entry otherwise it could be utilized safely and easily for many allergic issues.

Median medication scores fell from 3 at baseline to 0 at 12 months among toddlers who used sublingual #immunotherapy for house dust #mite #allergy, Dr. Koki Sasamoto of NHO Sagamihara National Hospital. Also, Dr. Nikhila D Schroeder comments. Read more 👇 healio.com/news/allergy-a…

It's not a panacea for food allergy trx. Pos: It'll help with access, cost, & speed of desensitization. Neg: Only for food, env allergies still need extracts/tablets. It's cheaper version of SLIT, not better. 3) It won't be adopted by governing bodies so it won't be taught.

#Allergy alert! According to Hugh H. Windom, MD, & colleagues in a recent @Els_Allergy-published study, using #RealFood from grocery stores instead of #allergen extracts helped expedite sublingual #immunotherapy without posing safety risks. More: buff.ly/3Bt8tXL #Eat

Lots of useful, similar, & connected talking points to discuss between this interview & @StevenBartlett's interview with Andrew Bustamante (@EverydaySpy) on the Diary of a CEO podcast. Nuanced convo is important for every topic. g2ul0.app.link/andrewisback youtu.be/d0-y0X51Xtw?si…

This conversation between Jon Stewart and Ta-Nehisi Coates on tonight’s Daily Show is pretty incredible.

California Department of Social Services must create guidelines to direct trained staff at childcare facilities on how to prevent & respond to anaphylaxis. It's designed to protect 1,000s of young children with food allergies, in a state with about 2.2 mil residents under 5yo.

Elijah’s Law is officially passed in California! A big thank you to @CAGovernor for signing the bill and to @Elijahsecho’s Thomas Silvera, Dina Hawthorne, and @AsmNguyen for their dedication to protecting children with #foodallergies.

More efforts to confirm what's already known about SLIT though it's great to see the attention. Brand-name male allergist gets more recognition for something he talked down to several years ago than the allergists who've been doing it for 10+ yrs. Human behavior is fascinating.

Great article and definitely needs highlighting. Although it should mention that sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) has been around for 50+ years, can treat multiple food/envir allergies simultaneously, is safer than Xolair or OIT, and is also surprisingly left out of these convos.

What's interesting is that this drug, Xolair, has been on the market for over 20 years, but only recently approved for food allergies. Why did it take so long to help patients? Gift link to my story on Xolair: theatlantic.com/health/archive…
