Selected as “Microbe of the Month”! The cells painted yellow are Promethearchaeum syntrophicum strain MK-D1. By making the cells glow yellow and the surrounding area dark, the image depicts the archaeon living in the mud of the seafloor.

Our Microbe of the Month for August is Promethearchaeum syntrophicum the first isolate of the lineage ‘Asgard’ archaea – an archaeal group thought to be related to the origin of eukaryotes. Read about this and more in the new edition of New to Science here microb.io/3Wsc3Z5
