Evidence of cochlear neural degeneration correlated with reduced phoneme distinctiveness in middle-age but doesn’t fully explain age-related neural dedifferentiation. Project led by @zcguo81 @JacieMcHaney & @AravindHearing #SpeechPerception #Aging #HearingLoss #AirPodscantfixthis

Using EEG and neural networks, our study shows phoneme encoding is less distinct and recruits broad neural resources in middle-aged adults. The less distinct phoneme encoding persists even when controlling for peripheral hearing and acoustic processing ability.

🧠👂🏼New findings from @SoundBrainLab reveal that middle-aged adults w/ normal hearing show reduced neural distinctiveness for speech representations. Could this indicate early cortical changes linked to hidden hearing loss? biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Check out our latest preprint with some really cool findings on hearing in middle-age!

Increased listening effort and cochlear neural degeneration underlie behavioral deficits in speech perception in noise in normal hearing middle-aged adults. biorxiv.org/content/10.110… (collaborative work with @AravindHearing, one of many upcoming papers!)

New preprint with @AravindHearing up now!

Our latest preprint is out now - biorxiv.org/content/10.110… We look at markers of cochlear deafferentation and increased listening effort in “normal-hearing” middle-aged adults. #hiddenhearingloss @PittCSD @PittSHRS

My lab @pittcsd has an immediate opening for a postdoc with specific expertise in fMRI. This position is funded by a recent NIH R01 award (🍾) to study how we prepare our auditory system as we plan and produce speech. More info: snslab.pitt.edu/opportunities.

Our python version of the mTRF toolbox is officially online. Any feedback and comments about the mTRFpy are appreciated! The mTRFpy team is looking forward to better serving the community in the future 🫡 Code available here: github.com/powerfulbean/m…

Happy to announce that mTRFpy was published in @JOSS! During review, we made some changes to the API, so if you have been using it already you may want to take a look at the updated documentation: mtrfpy.readthedocs.io/en/latest/?bad…
