Each August, we take time to shine a light on the political prisoners who have been targeted by the state for their work in furthering our movement for Black liberation. It’s a heavy topic as we reflect on the pain, trauma, and loss inflicted on our people. (1/5)
“What keeps us going, ultimately, is our love for each other, and our refusal to bow our heads, to accept the verdict, however all-powerful it seems. It’s what ordinary people have to do. You have to love each other. You have to defend each other. You have to fight.” - Mike Davis

People have been comparing things in El Lay lately to the 80’s and 90’s for the wrong reasons. Read on to make the real connections. Bless up @JWalkWattsUp
Great article featuring Dignity & Power NOW’s own, James Nelson. Read about James’ experience being targeted by police in the lead up to the ‘84 Olympics.
LAPD >> Bloods & Crips I know who I’d be more afraid of if I lived in LA. RIP.
BREAKING: the parents of 14 yo Valentina Orellana Peralta are holding a press conference with @BenCrumpLaw outside LAPD headquarters Tuesday. Their lawyers sent a letter to the LAPD today demanding transparency in her “wrongful death” and warning of a potential civil suit.
I know it was hard to watching the footage of the of the shooting LAPD did in NoHo Burlington, Where the 14 yr old girl should not had been murdered, no one had to loose their lives….🥲

I'm down for an in person conversation to. Its not black & white and its not just one option or answer. Even when talking about rape & murder there are so many factors to consider and talk about. I appreciate all the work you do and hope that you would be down to meet in person.
Some of those tangible steps are already in the books with LA County thanks to the work of @JusticeLANow and others. I hope folks read the ATI report and recommendations, but the county needs to be pressed to implement it wholly and not in accordance with their own bad faith
Ask ten people what is abolition and you may get ten different answers, so it is an important conversation to treat with respect and rigor. But for me, abolition does not mean an absence of removal
It’s the absence of punitive systems of state violence that aren’t oriented towards public safety, but rather the exploitation of grief and trauma and general lack of health infrastructure.
And if we talk about it, the convo doesn’t start at thinking about it in response to violence or harm. It is a holistic conversation about health infrastructure, neighborhood peace work, grief support, housing and food, and general opportunities
And to talk about what it means when someone can’t be around the community or their partner outside of a system that then fractures the family or communities ability to sustain. The system, as mediated by judges and police and prosecutors has not kept anyone safe
