In terms of book reviews, there is something for everyone: contemporary serpent handling, Atlantic world space, interracial religion, sectionalism, and the black national anthem "Lift Every Voice and Sing." (Seriously, we've definitely reviewed a book you're interested in!)
In the process Slade elucidates how and why white, liberal Protestants thought they could become the South's great, liberal hope only to become the disappointing white moderates observed by MLK.
Peter Slade's article "A Misplaced Hope," investigates the prophetic aim of the Fellowship of Southern Churchmen in the context of white, civil rights-era Protestantism.
The historiography does not offer convincing narratives that tell us why laypeople became such staunch supporters of the Republican Party and loyal members of the Religious Right. This article corrects that.

Book review process is important and here is why. Book publication, well-written review, purchased book within one year. Thanks, @heathwcarter for the quick turnaround for @JSReligion
