🚨New preprint alert 🚨 We present a chromosomal perspective of the DNAm landscape in two bird species. Our findings suggest that DNAm is involved in the development of sex-dependent phenotypes, but not in dosage compensation. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
New preprint 🚨 We find a high concentration of age-related CpG sites on the W chromosome of two avian species, potentially contributing to sex-dependent aging. 🧬🐦⬛🐦 biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

By genotyping c. 2500 birds, we found that blue tits have higher rates of Extra-Pair Paternity with increasing urbanisation, while great tit rates of EPP remain stable. Great work by Irene Di Lecce & @JOSudyka Now available @molecology ! onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/me…
Great to hear that exploring differences between natural cavities and nestboxes is interesting. Our papers nsojournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.11… and nsojournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.11… are both #TopCitedArticle and the first one got to be a #TopDownloadedArticle in @AvianBiology

New preprint on extra-pair paternity in an urbanised area! ecoevorxiv.org/repository/vie…
While aiming to minimize our impact on wildlife in cities we need informed measures and citizen support. We study direct effects of ALAN on behaviour and physiology of a migratory bird in an experiment on Gotland’s collared flycatcher population.
Keeping old-growth tree stands that are both: dark and abundant in natural nesting sites, but are also perfect recreational areas within urban matrix, is a conservation measure that would serve people and animals alike!
In a comprehensive comparative study we provide evidence that relative to natural cavities nestboxes affect breeding parameters in some urban species; this could lead to altered breeding ecology and outcomes.

Here's the final program for the 'Consequences of citizens' behaviour on wild animals' behaviour' symposium at @2023Behaviour I look forward to these exciting presentations!
Symposium F 'Consequences of citizens' behaviour on wild animals' behaviour' at @2023Behaviour just started! For those on site, meet us in Lecture Hall 9!
⏰ 🧬 My first first-author paper is now out in @molecology! We conducted the first review and meta-analysis of DNA methylation markers of ageing, evaluating effects of experimental protocol on the performance of epigenetic clocks in non-model animals. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/me…

Important info for ECRs as the system makes it hard to speak out. I know at least 4 senior academics, including me, who (when more junior) experienced serious cases of bullying/data stealing/gaslighting by Jetz. Others left academia. (I wasn't contacted for this article)
