The incompetence of the police force is the sole reason behind the issue of indeterminate detention of accused parties as well. Doesn’t look like this administration can fix the issue either. Bail conditions can be monitored if the police had the will and know-how. Sigh…
We would need less tax hikes and outright bans if age and venue restrictions could be enforced in the Maldives. But the mismanagement of the national police force and their lethargy makes the discussion of it pointless.
I would however commend the current Immigration Controller’s efforts to enforce existing laws without trying to introduce new rules.
Weak enforcement and regulation is the bane of the Maldives. No administration has as yet been able to focus on enforcement rather choosing to introduce more and more rules without the funds and resources to implement them.
I would argue that the move to control the supply of cigarettes in the market by wholesalers in a bid to benefit from higher margins applied to existing stock is a breach of the Competition & Fair Business Practices Act, but of course we don’t have an effective regulator.
