In our front page feature this week, @Ian_Dunn dissects "Raves in the naves", something which reveals something more than a desperation to lure people back to church or even the need to balance the books. Click below to read more. thetablet.co.uk/features/danse…

This is a common misunderstanding. Being Scottish is primarily about hating yourself, the English are just in the way.

Making your nation’s collective personality about hating England is so fucking cringe.

So sorry to read this…a giant of Scottish journalism and broadcasting. RIP.

Sensational job by Ian McCall to take the club from ten points adrift at the end of February to safety today. Thought he might be yesterday’s man when appointed - delighted to be wrong. Exactly the wily old campaigner we needed.

A beautiful reflection that captures the joy of what it was to know Fr Martin, and it reminds me of the words “heart speaks unto heart

A great loss.

Love this photo. I fell off the bike just after it was taken. Snapped by @simonmurphy7

Like many others, deeply sad at this news. A very good man and by God he was funny. A huge loss.

It is with deep shock and sorrow that we announce the death of Fr Martin Chambers, Bishop-elect of Dunkeld Diocese, who died this morning. Fr Chambers was due to be ordained Bishop of Dunkeld on 27th April. Just last week he travelled to Lourdes to pray for his new diocese. RIP

Saddened to learn this. A Fire Upon The Deep is a brilliant, prophetic novel.

He’d deny it, I’m sure, but Adrian Chiles is actually quite a wise man, and this is genuine wisdom.

I would vote for any politician who made it their primary policy goal to half that number. To even consider the attempt would be revolutionary in Scottish politics.

1 in 4 Scottish adults on anti-depressants doctor just told Amol on @BBCr4today re inactivity… Can’t find directly comparable England stat … but NHS England business data says there were 8.6m patients prescribed antidepressants in 22/23 (up from 6.8m in 2015)… 19% of adults

If you’re shocked by this, wait til you hear about the WWF’s death squads.

Every year, I publish a State of Culture report. This year something disturbing is happening. I used to worry about the trade-off between art and entertainment—but now a third option threatens to overwhelm both.

Beautifully written, of course. Those stories we shared and the witness of those voices had value. I’m proud of what we achieved in such challenging times. Working with you is always a joy.

If you’re surprised to learn that Britain has only just entered recession, you have good reason to be. Essentially, population growth was the only thing keeping us out of recession before. We’ve been experiencing a fall in economic production per person for longer.

Seriously people - look at what's happening in terms of GDP/capita (which is what ultimately matters for our living standards). This is a proper recession just being hidden by having more people - GDP/capita declined 0.7 per cent in 2023 with falls in every single quarter
