Soon time to pack my bags and discuss #stadiums, #megaprojects and #supplychains at @CSGlobalKSA 🌟
This week was tough on @Apple @Samsung and @Boeing due to workforce management issues. The strike of the dockland workers also result in disruptions to global supply chains. ildiko-almasi.com/post/labour-is… #myESRA #supplychains #strikes #freedomofassociation #collectivebargaining

Fun fact: I read academic papers in my industry criticising AI output without questioning whether the researchers actually had the skills to use the AI tool.. zero prompt iteration or engineering and suboptimal output at best..
It is funny that we don’t even know some basic stuff about prompting - is it better to refer to AI in second person (“you are… you should”) or third person? Causally or formally? Better to treat it like a person versus writing pseudocode? Even small effects may matter at scale.
"Deloitte contacted 50 companies operating in the Czech Republic [on the #EUDR], just 6.45 percent of have mapped their supply chain and are implementing measures. More than a third of companies are still looking for available information. A quarter ... tvorimevropu.cz/2024/08/28/ces…
The countries that got tea via China through the Silk Road (land) referred to it in various forms of the word "cha". On the other hand, the countries that traded with China via sea - through the Min Tan port called it in different forms of "te".
Paid maternity leave supports women to adjust to one of the most significant shifts in their lives. Interesting to see how developing countries and others criticised for lack of democracy protect women’s rights the most.

This!! Our users are asking questions that are not in the dataset or where there is no industry wide consensus hoping that AI will solve our problem. E.g. what’s a representative survey for SIAs? It is not in policies and we have differing opinions. AI won’t help you!
Sometimes, the obvious must be studied so it can be asserted with full confidence: - LLMs can not answer questions whose answers are not in their training set in some form, - they can not solve problems they haven't been trained on, - they can not acquire new skills our…

Every time I get discouraged I think of this.. even the smallest progress is compounding. Don’t give up ✨
The side of planet Earth we aren't used to seeing.
Unconscious bias is real..
I didn't know this paper... >300 people refereed the same economics paper, with author listed as 1. an early career scholar 2. anonymous 3. a Nobel laureate (from same university as 1) Recommendations: 65% reject for early career scholar, 23% reject for Nobel laureate 😑
Hungary finally leading the way 😎
Having a balanced view on clean energy, net zero and our energy needs matters. Some projects might seem like a good idea if you don’t look close enough.
Biomass may be a renewable energy source but it's certainly not a clean energy source. The ideological pursuit of renewable rather than clean energy can lead to policy decisions which are bad for people and the environment. Article linked below.

This is exactly how I think of integrating AI into the E&S workflow 🙌🏼
When an expert says "an AI can do 80% of the work" on a project, that is not usually a Pareto problem (leaving the hardest 20% to humans), it usually means "AI does a lot of the annoying work and my expertise allows me to spot any errors, fill in the extra gaps and add insights."

AI is not magic that will solve all our issues. AI is a tool that can be applied for specific tasks to enhance human expert capacity and increase efficiency and productivity.
