Never trust a self-proclaimed "foodie" that can't cook.
My first time backpacking through Europe was 10 years ago. Hostel prices now are 4-6× more expensive in many of the cities I visited. For the same hostels. That's a substantial increase in 10 years. $150+/night for a dorm bed? No thanks. Sad times when backpacking is pushed out.
Easily why Spain is one of my favorite places in the world to travel. Unbelievable food. Even the potato chips are noteworthy.

It's cheaper to fly halfway around the world in a bigger, more comfortable seat with 2 meals and unlimited drinks included than halfway across the US. By a lot... Apologies to my family. It's more financially sensible to see the world.
The response from @AirCanada 'customer assistance' employee, after their delays caused us to miss connections, a prepaid hotel stay, strand an entire flight of passengers and so on: "I want to go home... You should figure this out yourself" 100% true. I wish this was hyperbole.
